Front Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub: Installation

Vehicles with single rear wheels 

  1. NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of corrosion and foreign material.
    NOTE: Protect the brake disc with a soft cloth to prevent damage.
    NOTE: Make sure that new bolts are installed.
    NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

    Position the brake disc and front wheel hub assembly and install the new brake disc bolts finger tight.Use the General Equipment: Vise

  2. NOTE: Make sure to tighten the new brake disc bolts in a star/cross pattern or incorrect clamp load may occur.

    Tighten the brake disc bolt.

    Torque: 80 Nm

  3. Install the wheel hub and brake disc assembly on the vehicle and tighten the new mounting bolts.

    Torque: 63 Nm

    Vehicles with DRW and SRW Jumbo 

  4. NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of corrosion and foreign material.
    NOTE: Protect the brake disc with a soft cloth to prevent damage.
    NOTE: Make sure that new bolts are installed.
    NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

    Position the brake disc and front wheel hub assembly and install the new brake disc bolts finger tight.Use the General Equipment: Vise

  5. NOTE: Make sure to tighten the new brake disc bolts in a star/cross pattern or incorrect clamp load may occur.

    Tighten the brake disc bolt.

    Torque: 133 Nm

  6. Install the wheel hub and brake disc assembly on the vehicle and tighten the new mounting bolts.

    Torque: 63 Nm

    All vehicles 

    NOTE: SRW (single rear wheel) graphics shown, vehicles with DRW (dual rear wheels) and SRW (single rear wheel) Jumbo similar.
  7. NOTE: Make sure that the strut is not moved more than necessary to prevent damage to top mount.
    NOTE: The outer constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 45deg..

    Using special tool, pull the halfshaft into the wheel hub assembly.Install Suggested Tool: 205-1055 Installer, Companion Flange. Tool shown or a commercially available equivalent can be used.

  8. NOTE: Only tighten the nut finger tight at this stage.

    Install the new wheel hub nut.

  9. NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the lower ball joint stud from turning while installing the lower ball joint nut.

    Connect the lower control arm and install the new lower ball joint nut.

    Torque: 215 Nm

  10. Position the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly and tighten the new brake caliper anchor plate bolts.

    Torque: 275 Nm

  11. Install the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire . Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Dual Rear Wheels .
  12. NOTE: Do not tighten the front wheel hub nut with the vehicle on the ground. The nut must be tightened to specification before the vehicle is lowered onto the wheels. Wheel bearing damage will occur if the wheel bearing is loaded with the weight of the vehicle applied.
    NOTE: Install and tighten the new wheel hub nut to specification in a continuous rotation. Always install a new wheel hub nut after loosening or when not tightened to specification in a continuous rotation or damage to the components may occur.
    NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.
    NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.

    While an assistant applies the brake, tighten the wheel hub nut.

  13. Torque

    : 100 Nm

  14. Torque

    : 250 Nm

  15. Torque

    : 515 Nm

If equipped.Install the wheel center cap.

Check and if necessary adjust front toe. Refer to: Front Camber and Caster Adjustment .
