Pinpoint Test At: The Rear Parking Aid Camera Is Inoperative - Vehicles With Rear Only Parking Aid Camera With A Coaxial Cable

  1. NOTE: Before disconnecting the parking aid camera or jumper harness, verify that the connectors are properly seated and latched.

    Refer to PARKING AID for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Parking Aid - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    APIM C1001:1C Vision System Camera: Circuit Voltage Out Of Range A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the APIM when no video signal is detected from the rear parking aid camera with the vehicle in REVERSE.

    Possible Sources 

    • Fuse
    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Luggage compartment lid position data concern
    • Communication network concern
    • Infotainment display concern
    • Rear parking aid camera
    • APIM concern

    Visual Inspection and Pre-checks 

    • BJB fuse 25 (10A).
    • Verify the luggage compartment lid is fully closed.
    • If the rear parking aid camera is not configured after replacement, some video functions will be inoperative. Verify the rear parking aid camera configuration using the diagnostic scan tool.

  2. AT1 PERFORM A NETWORK TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a network test.

    Do all modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  GO to  AT2
    No  See the Symptom Chart: Communication Network. REFER to: Communications Network .
  3. AT2 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE REAR CAMERA

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Rear Parking Aid Camera C4358.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      coaxial cable core at C4358 Pin 1

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  AT3
    No  INSPECT BJB fuse 25 (10A). If the fuse is OK, repair the circuit for an open. If the fuse is not OK, REFER to OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify the possible causes of the short circuit.
  4. AT3 CHECK FOR GROUND AT THE REAR CAMERA

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  AT5
    No  GO to  AT4
  5. AT4 CHECK THE CAMERA GROUND/SHIELD CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect APIM C2383A (if the display is in the audio system with SYNC).

    • Measure:

      With SYNC display 

      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  If the camera display is in the audio system with SYNC, GO to  AT10
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. AT5 CHECK THE VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Disconnect APIM C2383A (if the display is in the audio system with SYNC).

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  AT6
  7. AT6 CHECK THE VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AT7
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  8. AT7 CHECK THE VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO THE VIDEO SHIELD

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AT8
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  9. AT8 CHECK VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:

      With SYNC display 

      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AT9
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  10. AT9 CHECK THE VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO TOGETHER

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AT10
    No  REPAIR the circuits.
  11. AT10 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM (SYNC MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the APIM connector and related in-line connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the APIM connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, REFER to: Information and Entertainment System - Component Location .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  12. AT11 CHECK FOR CORRECT REAR PARKING AID CAMERA OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the rear parking aid camera connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the rear parking aid camera connector. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new rear parking aid camera. REFER to: Rear Parking Aid Camera .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  13. AT12 CHECK FOR CORRECT DC (DIRECT CURRENT) / AC (ALTERNATING CURRENT) INVERTER MODULE OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the DC / AC inverter module connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the DC / AC inverter module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new DC / AC inverter module. REFER to: Direct Current/Alternating Current (DC/AC) Inverter .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
