Pinpoint Test I: Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCS) P0702, P0882, P0883, P1397

  1. Refer to TRANSMISSION CONTROLS - 8F35 for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The PCM monitors the supplied voltage and sets a DTC if supply voltage rises above or drops below threshold.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
PCM P0702:00 Transmission Control System Electrical: No Sub Type Information Sets in continuous memory and during the on-demand self-test when the PCM detects the supply voltage is greater than 16 volts.
PCM P0882:00 TCM Power Input Signal Low: No Sub Type Information Sets in continuous memory and during the on-demand self-test when the PCM detects the supply voltage is lower than 9 volts.
PCM P0883:00 TCM Power Input Signal High: No Sub Type Information Sets in continuous memory and during the on-demand self-test when the PCM detects the supply voltage is greater than 16 volts.
PCM P1397:00 System Voltage Out Of Self Test Range: No Sub Type Information Sets in continuous memory and during the on-demand self-test when the PCM detects the supply voltage is greater than 16 volts.

    Possible Sources

    • Charging system concern
    • High resistance ground condition
    • Low voltage to the PCM

  2. I1

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all PCM connectors.

    • REPAIR:

      • corrosion (install a new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect all PCM connectors.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the PCM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

    • Wait 10 seconds.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the PCM self-test.

    Are diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0702, P0882, P0883 and/or P1397 still present?

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the vehicle charging concern. REFER to: Charging System - 2.0L Duratec-HE (110kW/150PS) - MI4 .
No  If the PCM does not communicate with the scan tool, REFER to: Communications Network . Otherwise, the system is operating properly at this time. The DTC may have been set previously during battery charging or while jump starting the vehicle.
