Water-in-Fuel Sensor: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE: Midship style tank shown in illustration, others similar.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  5. NOTE: On early build vehicles, this step needs to be performed to prevent fuel from siphoning from the tank. On late build vehicles, the return fuel line is equipped with a check valve to prevent siphoning and this step does not need to be performed.
    NOTE: Depending on the fuel tank configuration, it may be easier to disconnect the return fuel line quick connect coupling on the fuel conditioning module.

    On early build vehicles, disconnect the return fuel line quick connect coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  6. Loosen the drain plug by hand and drain the fuel from the fuel filter assembly.

    • Tighten the drain plug once the fuel has drained.

  7. Rotate the sensor counter clockwise and remove the sensor.
