Water-in-Fuel Sensor: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Disconnect the electrical connector.

NOTE: On early build vehicles, this step needs to be performed to prevent fuel from siphoning from the tank. On late build vehicles, the return fuel line is equipped with a check valve to prevent siphoning and this step does not need to be performed.NOTE: Depending on the fuel tank configuration, it may be easier to disconnect the return fuel line quick connect coupling on the fuel conditioning module.NOTE: Midship style tank shown in illustration, others similar.
On early build vehicles, disconnect the return fuel line quick connect coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Loosen the drain plug by hand and drain the fuel from the fuel filter assembly.
- Tighten the drain plug once the fuel has drained.
- Rotate the sensor counter clockwise and remove the sensor.
