Pinpoint Test Aa: P1001, P1501, P1705

- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The TCM only runs the self-test when the it confirms the vehicle is in park or neutral and there is no vehicle speed indicated.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition TCM P1001:00 KOER Not Able to Complete, KOER Aborted: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TCM aborted a self-test due to the vehicle not being in park or neutral, or a vehicle speed greater than 5 mph (8 km/h) during the self-test. TCM P1501:00 Vehicle Speed Sensor Out Of Self Test Range: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TCM detected a vehicle speed greater than 5 mph (8 km/h) during a self-test. TCM P1705:00 Transmission Range Circuit Not Indicating Park/Neutral During Self Test: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TR sensor did not show park or neutral during a KOEO or KOER self-test. Possible Sources
- TR sensor concern
- VSS concern
- TCM fault
- AA1 CHECK ALL MODULES FOR CONTINUOUS MEMORY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (CMDTCS)
- Select PARK.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (CMDTCs) from all modules.
Are any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the TR sensor, park system, or wheel speed sensors present?
Yes RESOLVE all TR sensor, park system, and wheel speed sensor diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. REFER to the Master DTC Chart. No GO to AA2 - AA2 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE PARK SYSTEM
- Access the TCM and monitor the TR_CORRECTEDPID
- Select REVERSE.
- Select NEUTRAL.
- Select DRIVE.
- Select PARK.
Does PID TR_CORRECTED show correct park system operation?
Yes GO to AA5 No GO to AA3 - AA3 CHECK THE GEAR COMMANDED BY THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE)
- Access the TCM and monitor the GEAR_CMDPID
- Select REVERSE.
- Select NEUTRAL.
- Select DRIVE.
- Select PARK.
Does PID gear command match each selected gear position?
Yes GO to AA4 No RESOLVE the Gear Selector > Inoperative symptom. REFER to: External Controls - Vehicles With: Column Shift . REFER to: External Controls - Vehicles With: Console Shift . - AA4 CHECK THE TR (TRANSMISSION RANGE) SENSOR FOR PROPER INSTALLATION
- Drain the transmission fluid and remove the transmission fluid pan. REFER to: Transmission Fluid Pan, Gasket and Filter .
- Inspect the TR sensor and manual shaft for proper installation. Make sure the roll pin is completely installed in the TR sensor. Make sure detent spring is properly installed. Check all components for damage or binding. REFER to: Transmission Range (TR) Sensor .
- Check the park lock pawl solenoid for the pin being stuck extended. REFER to: Park Lock Pawl Solenoid .
- Inspect the park pawl, park pawl actuator rod, and park lock pawl valve. Make sure each component is properly installed and free of damage or binding.
Are all TR sensor and park components properly installed and free of damage or binding?
Yes INSTALL a new TR sensor. REFER to: Transmission Range (TR) Sensor . No REPAIR or INSTALL new components as necessary. - AA5 RECHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the TCM.
- Select PARK.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.
Is DTC P1001, P1501 and/or P1705 present in the TCM?
Yes INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . CARRY OUT the transmission strategy download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download . No The concern is not present at this time. It may have been caused by carrying out a TCM self-test with the vehicle in gear.
