Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The TCM receives an ignition switch position signal from the BJB through a hardwired circuit. The TCM also receives a wake-up message from the BCM over HS-CAN1 when the ignition switch is turned on.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition TCM P2531:00 Ignition Switch Run Position Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates an open circuit or a short to ground in the ignition switch position run (ISPR) circuit. HS-CAN1 messages from the BCM indicate the ignition is on, but voltage is low on the ISPR circuit. TCM P2532:00 Ignition Switch Run Position Circuit High: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates a short to power in the ignition switch position run (ISPR) circuit. HS-CAN1 messages from the BCM indicate the ignition is off, but voltage is high on the ISPR circuit. This DTC can also be caused by a remote start system on some vehicles. Possible Sources
- Connectors damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals
- Circuit open or shorted
- TCM calibration
- TCM
- AJ1 RECHECK FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) P2531, P2532
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the TCM.
- Repeat the following steps 2 times:
- Ignition OFF
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Ignition ON
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.
Did DTC P2531 and/or P2532 return?
Yes GO to AJ3 No For vehicles with remote start, GO to AJ2 For vehicles without remote start, the concern is not present at this time. - AJ2 OPERATE THE REMOTE START SYSTEM
- Repeat the following steps 2 times:
- Ignition OFF
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Start the vehicle using the remote start.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.
Did DTC P2531 and/or P2532 return?
Yes PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration. REFER to: Module Programming . CARRY OUT the transmission strategy download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download . No The concern is not present at this time. - Repeat the following steps 2 times:
- AJ3 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) VPWR CIRCUIT FOR KEY ON VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect TCM C1822.
- Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1822-31 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to AJ4 No VERIFY BJB Fuse F24 (10A) is OK. If the fuse is OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the open circuit. If the fuse is not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the short to ground. - AJ4 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) VPWR CIRCUIT FOR KEY OFF VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1822-31 Ground
Is the voltage approximately 0 volts?
Yes GO to AJ5 No REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the short to power. - AJ5 CHECK FOR CORRECT TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect the TCM connector.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Connect the TCM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
- Using the diagnostic scan tool, clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
- Repeat the following steps 2 times:
- Ignition OFF
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Ignition ON
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Carry out the TCM self-test.
Did DTC P2531 and/or P2532 return?
Yes CHECK for an applicable TSB, GSB, SSM, or FSA. If a service bulletin exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow bulletin instructions. If none address this concern, INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . CARRY OUT the transmission strategy download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
