NOTE: If a new hybrid drive unit was installed, the barcode must be recorded, prior to installation of the transmission.
If a new hybrid drive unit was installed, scan the 2D barcode on the new hybrid drive unit using a QR or 2D barcode reader app and record the last 7 digits of the barcode.

NOTE: Prior to installation of the transmission, lubricate the hybrid drive unit input shaft or damage to the hybrid drive unit or the engine crankshaft can occur.
Lubricate the hybrid drive unit input shaft with multi-purpose grease.
Material
: Motorcraft® Multi-Purpose Grease Spray / XL-5-A (ESB-M1C93-B)

NOTE: If the transmission is not positioned on the dowel pins, damage to the transmission may occur.
- If the dowel pins were pulled out of the engine block during removal, install new dowel pins in the engine block.
- Clean and inspect the high voltage electrical connector gasket.

NOTE: If transmission is being replaced, remove the transmission fluid fill plug and verify that the transmission is filled with transmission fluid.NOTE: If transmission was disassembled, add transmission fluid to the transmission.NOTE: Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) shown, Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) similar.
- Remove the transmission fluid fill plug transmission fluid level indicator assembly.
- Verify transmission is filled with transmission fluid.
- Slightly tilt the transmission rearward.
- If the transmission was disassembled, add 13 L (13.7 qt) of transmission fluid to the transmission through the transmission fluid fill hole.
Material
: Motorcraft® MERCON® ULV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-12-QULV (WSS-M2C949-A,) (MERCON® ULV)
- Loosely install the transmission fluid fill plug when finished.
Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles
- If removed, install the transfer case and the new bolts.
- Tighten the bolts evenly in a star pattern.
Torque: 150 lb.in (17 Nm)
- Tighten the bolts evenly in a star pattern.

NOTE: Secure the transmission to the transmission jack with a safety strap.NOTE: Make sure the transmission jack makes contact on the outer ribs of the transmission fluid pan.
Using a high-lift transmission jack, support the transmission.
- Make sure the transmission is securely fastened to the transmission jack. Use the General Equipment: Transmission JackUse the General Equipment: Retaining Strap
- Tilt the front of the transmission down.
- Slide the transmission towards the rear of the vehicle.
- Raise the front of the transmission into a horizontal position.
Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) vehicles

NOTE: Secure the transmission to the transmission jack with a safety strap.NOTE: Make sure the transmission jack makes contact on the outer ribs of the transmission fluid pan.
Using a high-lift transmission jack, position the transmission in the vehicle. Use the General Equipment: Transmission JackUse the General Equipment: Retaining Strap
All vehicles
- Connect the hybrid drive unit low voltage connector.
- Rotate the locking arm to connect the low voltage connector.
- Slide the safety lock in.

NOTE: With the transmission in a horizontal position, move it toward the engine and position it on the dowel pins.
Install the lower bellhousing bolt.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Position the bracket and install the top bellhousing bolts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Position back the high voltage wiring harness and install the bolts.
Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Install the RH bellhousing bolts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the RH bellhousing bolt.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the heat shield and the bolt.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

NOTE: If equipped, position back the self-adhesive heat shield.
Install the heat shield and the LH bell housing bolts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

- Push the transmission electrical connector in.
- Lock the tab to connect the transmission electrical connector.
- Attach the wiring harness retainers to the transmission.
Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) vehicles
- Position the fuel line bracket and install the bolt.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles
- Position the fuel line bracket and install the bolt. Connect the transfer case vent tube.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

- Connect the transfer case electrical connector.
- Connect the transfer case electrical harness retainer.
All vehicles

NOTE: Make sure that new gasket is installed.
Install the new gasket.

NOTE: Loosely install the new RH catalytic converter nuts. Do not tighten at this time.
Position the RH catalytic converter in the vehicle. Loosely install the new RH catalytic converter nuts.
- Install the transmission support insulator. Refer to: Transmission Support Insulator .
- Install the LH catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter LH .

NOTE: Evenly tighten the catalytic converter nuts.
Tighten the RH catalytic converter nuts.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- Connect the RH catalyst monitor sensor and the RHHO2S electrical connectors.
- Install the catalytic converter flange to the muffler inlet pipe bolts.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- Install the NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) cover and retainers.
- Install the retainers and heat shield.
Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
- Connect the engine clutch pressure sensor and attach the wiring harness to the transmission.
- Install the transmission fluid heat exchanger. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Heat Exchanger .
- Install the rear driveshaft assembly. Refer to: Rear Driveshaft

Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles
- Install the front driveshaft assembly. Refer to: Front Driveshaft .
- Check the transfer case fluid level. Refer to: Transfer Case Draining and Filling
.
Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) vehicles
- Install the new stabilizer bar bracket nuts.
Torque: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm)
All vehicles

NOTE: If equipped with a underbody splash shield, do not install the splash shield at this time.
Install the starter motor assembly. Refer to: Starter Motor .
- Repower the high voltage battery. Refer to: High Voltage System De-energizing .
- After completing the repairs, perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure using a diagnostic scan tool.
- If a new transmission, main control, hybrid drive unit, and/or transmission fluid auxiliary pump was installed, the transmission identification (TRID) file in the PCM must be updated with the component characterization data. Refer to: Transmission Strategy Download .
- If the transmission was overhauled, the adaptive drive cycle must be updated. Refer to: Adaptive Learning Drive Cycle .
- While driving the vehicle, use the scan tool to verify that the TFT has reached a temperature of 96 deg.-101 deg.C (206 deg.-215 deg.F). This will circulate the transmission fluid through the torque converter and the transmission fluid cooling system, eliminating any trapped air in the transmission fluid cooling system.
- Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check .

NOTE: If the transmission was overhauled or the transmission fluid auxiliary pump was replaced the pump must be primed or damage to the pump can occur.NOTE: TFT must be greater than 38 deg.C (100 deg.F) for the PCM to command the pump on.
Using the scan tool verify the TFT is above 38 deg.C (100 deg.F)
- If TFT is below 38 deg.C (100 deg.F), run engine at 3000 RPM until specified temperature is achieved (approximately 2-4 minutes).
- Prime the Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Pump.
- Key ON, Engine OFF.
- Using the scan tool, command the pump on for 30 seconds. If the pump cannot be commanded on, verify TFT is above 38 deg.C (100 deg.F).
- Clear DTCs.
- Carry out a road test until there is a stop / start event. If the restart is harsh, repeat the Transmission Fluid Pump prime procedure.
- Continue road test and evaluate each stop / start event. Repeat prime procedure until three consecutive normal stop / start events are achieved.
