Pinpoint Test AK: P2883
- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The engine disconnect clutch is located in the hybrid drive unit. It engages and disengages the engine from the hybrid drive unit to allow for different driving modes (electric, gas engine, and hybrid). The hybrid drive unit is cooled by transmission fluid that is fed through the transmission fluid auxiliary pump, through feed tubes in the transmission fluid pan, through passages in the transmission case, and out of a cooling nozzle above the hybrid drive unit.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition PCM P2883:00 Engine Disconnect Clutch Temperature Too High: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the engine disconnect clutch temperature was higher than normal operating temperatures. Possible Sources
- Transmission overheating condition
- Engine disconnect clutch fault
- Hybrid drive unit cooling system fault
- AK1 CHECK FOR A TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING CONCERN
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (CMDTCs) from the PCM.
Is DTC P0218 and/or P1783 present?
Yes RESOLVE those diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. REFER to the DTC Chart. No GO to AK2 - AK2 CHECK FOR AN ENGINE DISCONNECT CLUTCH APPLICATION CONCERN
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (CMDTCs) from the PCM.
Is DTC P2884, P2885 and/or P2886 present?
Yes RESOLVE those diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. REFER to the DTC Chart. No GO to AK3 - AK3 CHECK THE SOBDMC (SECONDARY ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC CONTROL MODULE C) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (CMDTCs) from the SOBDMC.
Are any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the hybrid drive system present in the SOBDMC?
Yes RESOLVE those diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. REFER to the Master DTC Chart. No GO to AK4 - AK4 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL
- Check the transmission fluid level. REFER to: Transmission Fluid Level Check .
Is the transmission fluid level correct?
Yes GO to AK5 No ADJUST the transmission fluid level as necessary. REFER to: Transmission Fluid Level Check . After correcting the transmission fluid level, GO to AK5 - AK5 RECHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) P2883
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the PCM.
- Access the SOBDMC and monitor the GCLTEMP (Deg C) PID
- Access the SOBDMC and monitor the TFT (Deg C) PID
- Road test the vehicle long enough that both temperatures stop increasing. Include a variety of driving conditions and make sure the vehicle transitions between electric and gas engine driving modes.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the KOEOPCM self-test.
Is DTC P2883 present in the PCM?
Yes GO to AK6 No The concern is not present at this time. It may have been caused by an extreme operating condition, or by an intermittent fault condition. - AK6 INSPECT THE HYBRID DRIVE UNIT COOLING FEED PASSAGES
- Drain the transmission fluid and remove the transmission fluid pan. REFER to: Transmission Fluid Pan, Gasket and Filter .
- Inspect the hybrid drive unit cooling feed tube in the oil pan for damage debris, and blockage. REFER to: Hybrid Drive Unit .
- Remove the transmission fluid auxiliary pump. REFER to: Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Pump .
- Inspect the hydraulic passages in the transmission fluid auxiliary pump and in the transmission case for damage, debris, and blockage. Inspect all seals for damage or leaks. REFER to: Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Pump .
Are all hybrid drive unit cooling feed components free of damage, debris, blockage, and leaks?
Yes GO to AK7 No CLEAN or INSTALL new components as necessary. - AK7 INSPECT THE HYBRID DRIVE UNIT
- Remove the hybrid drive unit. REFER to: Hybrid Drive Unit .
- Inspect the hybrid drive unit cooling feed passages in the front of the transmission case and in the hybrid drive unit for damage, debris, blockage, and leaks.
- Inspect the fluid spray nozzle in the front of the transmission case for damage, debris, and blockage.
Are the hybrid drive unit cooling feed passages free of damage, debris, blockage, and leaks?
Yes INSTALL a new hybrid drive unit. REFER to: Hybrid Drive Unit . No CLEAN or INSTALL new components as necessary.
