Pinpoint Test P: Selector Lever Moves Past The Park Position When Shifting To Park

- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The stow button on the GSM moves the selector lever from park to the stow position, and from the stow position to park. When the vehicle is shifted into Park, the selector lever will lock in the Park position and not move to the stow position unless the stow button is pressed.
If the selector lever moves past the park position when shifting into park, or if the selector lever gets stuck between the park and stow positions, a fault is present.
Possible Sources
- GSM fault
- P1 VERIFY THE CONDITION OF THE GSM (GEAR SHIFT MODULE)
- Ignition ON.
- Observe the park indicator on the GSM.
- Observe the position of the selector lever.
Is the park indicator blinking, and is the selector lever stuck between the Park and Stow positions?
Yes Once in this condition, the GSM must be replaced. INSTALL a new GSM. REFER to: Gear Shift Module (GSM) - Vehicles With: Console Shift . No CHECK for an applicable TSB, GSB, SSM, or FSA. If a service bulletin exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow bulletin instructions. If none address this concern, there is an internal fault in the GSM. INSTALL a new GSM.
