Pinpoint Test M: P168A:92, P168A:94
- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The TCCM software contains software that monitors overall system operation. This software runs in the background and does not affect or influence four wheel drive operation. If the software detects unexpected or incorrect overall system operation, the TCCM may set a DTC and inhibit four wheel drive operation until operating condition change. A 4x4 Fault message may appear in the message center when operation is inhibited.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition TCCM P168A:92 Internal Control Module Transfer Case Control Performance: Performance Or Incorrect Operation The TCCM observed unexpected or incorrect overall 4x4 system operation five times within the same drive cycle which disables the 4x4 system. Resolve all other TCCMDTC first. TCCM P168A:94 Internal Control Module Transfer Case Control Performance: Unexpected Operation The TCCM observed unexpected or incorrect overall 4x4 system operation which resulted in an engine torque reduction request. Resolve all other TCCMDTC first. Possible Sources
- Unique driving conditions
- TCCM
- Transfer Case Clutch Circuit faults
- Unstable or compromised CAN bus communication with TCCM
- M1 CHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE)
- Enter the following diagnostic mode: PCMKOER and CMDTC self-test.
Are any PCMDTC present?
Yes RESOLVE all PCMDTC first. REFER to: 2.7L EcoBoost Electronic Engine Controls . REFER to: 3.3L Duratec-V6 Electronic Engine Controls . REFER to: 3.5L EcoBoost (BM) Electronic Engine Controls . REFER to: 5.0L 32V Ti-VCT Electronic Engine Controls . REFER to: 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel Electronic Engine Controls . No GO to M2 - M2 ATTEMPT TO DUPLICATE THE CONCERN
- Enter the following diagnostic mode: TCCM Clear and Retest self-test.
- Road test the vehicle. Include some driving in all ATCM mode selections.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode: TCCMCMDTC self-test.
Is P168A:92 or P168A:94 present?
Yes GO to M3 No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by unique driving conditions. - M3 CHECK THE CLUTCH CTRL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect TCCM C2371B.
- Disconnect transfer case C350.
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to M4 No REPAIR the open circuit. - M4 CHECK THE CLUTCH CTRL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect TCCM C2371B.
- Disconnect transfer case C350.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2371B-9 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to M5 No REPAIR the short to ground. - M5 CHECK THE CLUTCH CTRL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect TCCM C2371B.
- Disconnect transfer case C350.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2371B-9 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the short to voltage. No GO to M6 - M6 CHECK TCCM (TRANSFER CASE CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
- Refer to Wiring Diagrams Two Wheel Drive/Four Wheel Drive Systems for schematic and connector information. DISCONNECT and INSPECT all TCCM connectors.
- REPAIR:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins).
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins.
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary.
- CONNECT all connecters. Make sure each connector seats and latches correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK for any applicable TSB. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSB address this concern, INSTALL a new TCCM. REFER to: Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
