Camshaft RH: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
NOTE:
If the components are to be reinstalled, they must be installed in their original locations.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Remove the following items:
- Remove the timing belt. Refer to: Timing Belt .
- Remove the RH camshaft front seal. Refer to: Camshaft Front Seal .
- Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to: Brake Vacuum Pump - 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel .
- Remove the RH valve cover. Refer to: Valve Cover RH .
- Compress the secondary timing chain tensioner and install the retaining pin.

NOTE: Cylinder head camshaft bearing caps are numbered to verify that they are assembled in the original positions.NOTE: Loosen the camshaft bearing cap bolts one turn at a time until all tension is released from the camshaft bearing caps.
Remove the bolts and the camshaft bearing caps.
- Remove the bolts and the RH camshafts, camshaft chain, secondary timing chain tensioner.

NOTE: Mark the location of the roller follower and the hydraulic lash adjuster assembly before removal.
Remove the camshaft roller follower and hydraulic lash adjuster assemblies.
- Inspect the hydraulic lash adjuster and roller follower for damage. If any damage is found, inspect the camshaft lobes and valves for damage. Replace damaged components as necessary.
