- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to: ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, VACUUM FILLING AND BLEEDING
- Remove the starter. Refer to: Starter Motor .
- Detach the retainer from the oil pan.
- Detach the retainer from the oil pan.
- Remove the transmission fluid cooler bolts.

NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.
- Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Position the transmission fluid cooler aside.

- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connectors.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
-
- Remove the nut.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Remove the nut and position the coolant tube and wiring harness brackets aside.
-
NOTE: The drain plug should be removed and installed by hand, do not use tools.
- Turn the oil drain plug by hand counterclockwise 120 degrees. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
- Pull the oil drain plug out of the oil pan.
- After the oil has drained, push the oil drain plug into the oil pan.

NOTE: Overtightening will damage the oil drain plug and possibly the oil pan.
Turn the oil drain plug by hand clockwise 120 degrees.
- If equipped, remove the front driveshaft. Refer to: Front Driveshaft .

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Remove the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe bolts and separate.
- Remove and discard the catalytic converter-to-LH exhaust manifold nuts.
- Remove and discard the catalytic converter-to-RH exhaust manifold nuts.
- Separate the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter from the exhaust manifolds.
- Remove the cylinder block opening cover.

NOTE: Only rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction.
Remove and discard the torque converter-to-flexplate nuts. Use the General Equipment: Magnetic Socket

NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts or damage to the transmission mount can occur.
Loosen the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts.
-
NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the engine mount nuts, stud bolts or damage to the engine mount can occur.
Remove and discard the RH engine mount nuts.
- Remove the studs.
- Remove the lower bellhousing bolts.
- Remove the lower bellhousing bolt.
- Position the bracket aside.
- Remove the body. Refer to: Body .
- Disconnect the quick release couplings and remove the PCV tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING
.

- Disconnect the vacuum tube quick release couplings. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .
- Detach the vacuum tube retainer and remove the vacuum tube assembly.

- Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector.
- Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .
- Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .
- Slide the EVAP canister purge valve off of the intake manifold.

- Disconnect the fuel tube spring lock coupling. Refer to: Spring Lock Couplings .
- Disconnect the fuel tube quick release coupling. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .
- Remove the fuel rail insulators.
- Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector.
- Disconnect the RH fuel injector electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the LH fuel injector electrical connectors and the fuel sensor electrical connector.

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the fuel rail from the intake manifold assembly.
Remove the fuel rail bolts.

- Loosen the intake manifold bolts.
- Position the manifold up and towards the front of the engine to access the rear of the manifold.
-
- Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
- Remove the intake manifold.
-

NOTE: Visually inspect the manifold gaskets for nicks, cuts and abrasions. If the se conditions are NOT present, the gaskets may be re-used.
Remove and inspect the gaskets.
- Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.
-

NOTE: To release the fuel pressure in the high-pressure fuel tube, wrap the high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts with a shop towel to absorb any residual fuel pressure during the loosening of the high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts.
Loosen the nuts and remove the high pressure fuel tube.
- Discard the high pressure fuel tube.
- Remove the insulators.

- Disconnect the quick release coupling and remove the crankcase vent tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING .
- Release the clamp and remove the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Release the clamp and remove the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Disconnect the quick release coupling.
- Release the clamp and remove the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Release the clamp and remove the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Release the spring clip and remove the coolant bypass T assembly from the engine.
- Release the clamps and remove the coolant hose assembly. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

- Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Disconnect the coolant hose quick release coupling.
- Detach the coolant hose retainer from the auxiliary coolant pump bracket.
- Detach the coolant hose retainers from the valve cover stud bolts.
- Disconnect the coolant hose quick release couplings.
- Remove the nut and ground strap from the LH valve cover stud bolt.
- Detach the transmission wiring harness retainers.
- Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner counter clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.
- Remove the bolt and the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Remove bolts and position the generator access the electrical connection.

- Reposition the wiring protective cover.
- Remove the nut and the B+ wire.
- Depress the tab and disconnect the generator electrical connector.
- Remove the generator.
- Remove and discard the engine oil filter.

NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine mount through bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-cylinder block bracket can occur.
Remove and discard the LH engine mount through bolt.
-
NOTE: Do not support the transmission by the fluid pan, failure to follow this instruction may result in serious damage to the transmission.
Support the bellhousing of the transmission with a suitable floor jack and a block of wood. Use the General Equipment: Trolley Jack. Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
- Detach the retainer and position the vent hose aside.
- Remove the upper bellhousing bolts.
- Install Special Service Tool: 303-F047 Lifting Bracket, Engine.

NOTE: It will be necessary to adjust the height floor jack to support the transmission.
Using the Heavy Duty Floor Crane, raise the engine assembly to gain access to the LH engine mount bolts. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane
-
NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the engine mount-to-frame bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-frame nut plate can occur.
Remove and discard the LH engine mount-to-frame bolts.
- Remove the LH engine mount. Remove the LH engine mount.
- Remove the bellhousing bolts and the bracket.
- With the aid of an assistant, use the Heavy Duty Floor Crane to remove the engine assembly from the chassis. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane

NOTE: The flexplate bolts are torque-to-yield design and are not reusable.
- Remove and discard the bolts.
- Remove the flexplate.
- Remove the crankshaft sensor ring and the engine-to-transmission spacer plate.
- Inspect the crankshaft sensor ring for damage. If the crankshaft sensor ring has been dropped or has any visual damage, it must be replaced.
