Coolant Pump: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE: The coolant pump, pulley and housing are replaced as assembly.

All vehicles 

  1. Drain the powertrain secondary cooling system. Refer to: Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  2. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to: Cooling Fan .
  3. Detach the retainers from the cooling fan stator.

  4. Remove the nuts and position the cooling fan stator aside.

    Torque: 150 lb.in (17 Nm)

    Vehicle With Dual Generators 

  5. Disconnect the battery ground. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  6. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and detach the accessory drive belt from the generator and the coolant pump pulleys.

  7. Remove the bolt and the accessory drive belt idler pulley.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (47 Nm)

  8. Detach the wiring harness retainer, remove the bolts and position the generator aside.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (47 Nm)

    Vehicles With Single Generator 

  9. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and detach the accessory drive belt from the secondary coolant pump pulley.

    All vehicles 

  10. Remove the cooling fan stator standoff.

    Torque: 16 lb.ft (22 Nm)

  11. Remove the bolt and the accessory drive belt tensioner.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    1. Pull the degas bottle to coolant pump hose spring clip up until the end of clip is in the detent on the quick connect coupling. Disconnect the radiator to coolant pump hose from the secondary coolant pump.
    2. Pull the coolant pump to radiator hose spring clip up until the end of clip is in the detent on the quick connect coupling. Disconnect the coolant pump to degas bottle hose from the secondary coolant pump.

  12. Remove the bolts and the secondary coolant pump, the pulley and the housing.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
