4x2/4x4
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Remove the following items:
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
- Remove the cooling module. Refer to: Cooling Module .
- Remove the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt .
- Remove the front wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
- If equipped, remove the bolts and the transmission housing cover.

NOTE: Vehicles come with an underbody shield or a skid plate.
If equipped, remove the bolts and the underbody shield.

- Remove the oil pan plug and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)
- Remove and discard the oil filter. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
- Remove the pin-type retainer. Position the wiring harness from the oil pan.
- Remove the bolt and position the ground wire from the oil pan.

- Release the clamp and remove coolant hose from thermostat housing. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Release the clip and remove the coolant hose from the degas bottle.
- Remove the nut and position the transmission cooler tube bracket and wiring harness aside.
- Disconnect the generator wiring from the engine front cover.
- Disconnect the A/C pressure switch.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector and the wiring harness retainers.

- Remove the nut and disconnect the A/C tube.
- Discard the O-ring seal.
- Make sure that all openings are sealed.

- Release the clamp and remove the upper radiator hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Release the clamps and remove the degas bottle coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Release the clamp and remove the lower radiator hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Remove the nut from the RH valve cover stud bolt and position the ground strap aside.

- Disconnect the cabin heater coolant pump wiring harness electrical connector.
- Remove the bolts and position the cabin heater coolant pump and coolant hose aside.
- Disconnect the coolant hoses from the EGR valve.
- Remove the generator. Refer to: Generator - 3.3L Duratec-V6 .
- Detach the generator wiring harness retainer from the oil filter adapter.
- Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to: Upper Intake Manifold .
- Remove the PCV tube.

- Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve wiring harness electrical connector.
- Disconnect the quick release coupling and remove the EVAP canister purge valve. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Remove the high-pressure fuel pump noise insulator.

- Disconnect the quick release coupling and position the fuel supply tube aside. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Disconnect the quick release couplings and remove the high-pressure fuel pump to port injection fuel rail tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Disconnect the heater hose from the lower intake manifold at the rear of the engine.

- Disconnect the center PCM electrical connector and wiring harness retainer.
- Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector and position the engine wiring harness on the engine.
- Detach the transmission wiring harness retainer from the back of the RH valve cover stud bolt.
- Detach the transmission wiring harness retainers from the back of the RH cylinder head.
- Remove the nut, retainers and the ground strap from the cowl.
4x4
- Remove the front driveshaft. Refer to: Front Driveshaft

4x2/4x4
- Remove the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
- Remove the pin-type retainers and the access cover.

NOTE: Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the engine clockwise.
Remove and discard the torque converter nuts.
4x4
- Detach the transfer case vent tube retainer and position aside.
4x2/4x4

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Remove the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe bolts and separate.

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Remove and discard the LH catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts.

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Remove and discard the RH catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts.

NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the engine mount nuts, studs or damage to the engine mount can occur.NOTE: The engine mount stud may come off with the nuts.
- Remove and discard the RH engine mount nuts.
- Remove the RH engine mount studs.
- Remove the engine-to-transmission bolts.
- Remove the transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Remove the transmission-to-engine bolt.

NOTE: 4x4 shown, 4x2 similar.NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening or tightening the engine mount through bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-cylinder block bracket can occur.
Remove and discard the LH engine mount through bolt.
- Remove the transmission-to-engine bolts.

NOTE: Do not support the transmission by the fluid pan, failure to follow this instruction may result in serious damage to the transmission.
Support the bellhousing of the transmission with a suitable floor jack and a block of wood. Use the General Equipment: Trolley Jack. Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
- Remove the LH transmission-to-engine bolt.
- Install chains to the engine lift eyes.

NOTE: After removing the bolts leave the LH engine mount in place.
Remove and discard the bolts for the LH engine mount.

NOTE: It may be necessary to install a ratchet strap from the front of engine to the chain to keep the engine level.
Using the floor crane and chain, raise the engine for clearance to remove the LH engine mount. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane
- Remove the LH engine mount.
- Detach the generator wiring harness retainer from the lower LH side of the engine block.
- Using the floor crane and chain, remove the engine.
