- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

NOTE: Use a shop towel when removing the oil filter housing to prevent oil from spilling on the engine or accessory components.
- Loosen the oil filter housing and allow the oil to drain out of the housing and down into the engine.
- Remove the oil filter housing and discard the oil filter element.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
- Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to: ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, VACUUM FILLING AND BLEEDING .
- Remove the starter. Refer to: Starter Motor .
- Detach the retainer from the oil pan and position the coolant tubes aside.
- Remove the transmission fluid cooler bolts.

NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.
- Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Position the transmission fluid cooler aside.

NOTE: The drain plug should be removed and installed by hand, do not use tools.
- Turn the oil drain plug by hand counterclockwise 120 degrees. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
- Pull the oil drain plug out of the oil pan.
- After the oil has drained, push the oil drain plug into the oil pan.

NOTE: Overtightening will damage the oil drain plug and possibly the oil pan.
Turn the oil drain plug by hand clockwise 120 degrees.
- If equipped, remove the front driveshaft. Refer to: Front Driveshaft .

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Remove the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe bolts and separate.

NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts or damage to the transmission mount can occur.
Loosen the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts.

NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the engine mount nuts, stud bolts or damage to the engine mount can occur.
Remove and discard the RH engine mount nuts.
- Remove the studs.
- Remove the lower bellhousing bolts.
- Remove the lower bellhousing bolt.
- Remove the body. Refer to: Body .

- Loosen the clamp.
- Detach the RH air cleaner outlet pipe from the grommet.
- Remove the RH air cleaner outlet pipe.

- Disconnect the ventilation tubes, the air bypass valve tube and the vacuum line.
- Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger inlet.
- Detach the LH air cleaner outlet pipe from the grommet and remove the pipe.
- Rotate the retaining ring counterclockwise 180 degrees and remove the TC bypass tube.

- Loosen the CAC outlet pipe clamps and detach the hose retainer.
- Remove the CAC outlet pipe.
-
- Loosen the CAC inlet pipe clamps.
- Detach the CAC inlet pipe from the grommet and remove the pipe.
-
- Loosen the CAC inlet pipe clamps.
- Detach the CAC inlet pipe from the grommet and remove the pipe.
-
- Release the clamps and remove the radiator hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

- Disconnect the quick release coupling and position the EGR coolant hose aside.
- Remove the nut and position the coolant tube assembly aside.
-
- Detach the pin-type retainer.
- Remove the wiring harness retainer nut and position the wiring harness aside.
-
- Remove the bolt and ground wire.
- Remove the pin-type retainer and position the wiring harness aside.
-
- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connectors.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.
-
- Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
- Lift the protective cover, remove the nut and position the harness aside.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer located below the generator from the cylinder block.
- Remove the retainers and the access cover.

NOTE: Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the engine clockwise.
Remove and discard the torque converter nuts.
- Remove and discard the RH catalytic converter nuts.
- Remove and discard the LH catalytic converter nuts.

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
Position the catalytic converters back.
- Remove and discard the exhaust gaskets.
-
- Remove the nuts.
- Slide the engine appearance cover out of the retaining bracket.
- If the engine appearance cover stud bolts are loosened or removed, they must be installed/tightened into the intake manifold.
Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

- Disconnect the crankcase pressure sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the quick release coupling and remove the PCV tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING . .

- Disconnect the vacuum tube quick release coupling. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING . .
- Disconnect the crankcase vent tube quick release coupling. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING . .

- Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Detach the vacuum harness retainers.
- Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the coolant hose quick release coupling.

- Remove the bolts and the engine appearance cover bracket.
- Remove the bolts and position the coolant pipe aside.
- Detach the wiring harness connector retainers.
-
- Remove the nut.
- Release the clamps and remove the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor.
-
- Disconnect the ignition coil-on-plug electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Remove the stud bolt and the ignition coil-on-plug.
- Remove the EGR tube bolts.
-
- Remove the EGR tube nuts.
- Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors.
- Detach the engine wiring harness retainer.
- Remove the bolts and the EGR valve assembly.
-
- Remove and discard the gasket.
- Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.
- Remove and discard the EGR tube gasket.
-
- Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector.
- Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve quick release couplings. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING . .
- Lift the EVAP canister purge valve up and remove the EVAP canister purge valve.

- Detach the vacuum harness retainer.
- Detach the ground harness retainer.
- Disconnect the quick release coupling and remove the EVAP tube assembly. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING . .
- Detach the wiring harness retainers from the rear of the intake manifold.

NOTE: Wiring harness and vacuum tubes removed from graphic for clarity.
Remove the intake manifold.
-
- Remove and inspect the gaskets, replace as necessary.
- Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.
- Remove the bolt, nut and the bracket.
- Release the clamp and remove the coolant pipe assembly. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Detach the engine wiring harness retainers.
- Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump fuel feed tube quick release coupling. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine mount through bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-cylinder block bracket can occur.
Remove and discard the LH engine mount through bolt.

NOTE: Do not support the transmission by the fluid pan, failure to follow this instruction may result in serious damage to the transmission.
Support the bellhousing of the transmission with a suitable floor jack and a block of wood. Use the General Equipment: Trolley Jack. Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
- Install Special Service Tool: 303-1634 Lift Eyes (2), 303-1246 Engine Spreader Bar.

NOTE: It will be necessary to adjust the height floor jack to support the transmission.
- Install a floor crane and a length of chain with connecting links. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane
- Raise the engine assembly and position the engine to the RH side of the chassis.

NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the engine mount-to-frame bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-frame nut plate can occur.
Remove and discard the engine mount-to-frame bolts.
- Remove the LH engine mount.
- If equipped, detach the vent hose retainer.
- Remove the transmission bellhousing bolts.
- With the aid of an assistant, use the floor crane to remove the engine assembly from the chassis. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane
