  1. M1 VERIFY THE CONCERN IS PRESENT

    • Ignition ON.

    • Enter the following diagnostic mode: KOEO self-test.

Did P1812 or P1815 set during the TCCM KOEO Self-test?

    Yes  GO to  M2
No  The concern is not present at this time. Visually inspect the MSS and the TCCM connectors and pins for damage, spread terminals, etc. Visually inspect the wiring harness between the TCCM and the MSS for conditions that may have caused the concern.
  2. M2 CHECK TRANSFER PLATE CONTACT PLATE CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Disconnect the MSS C284.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C284-3

      C284-2

Is the voltage greater than 12 volts?

Yes  12v is present at the MSS. GO to  M6
No  Voltage is NOT present at the MSS. GO to  M3
  3. M3 CHECK THE MSS 4WD CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect the MSS C284.

    • Disconnect the TCCM C2371A.

Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C284-3
      GFD464773Courtesy of FORD MOTOR COMPANY
      C2371A-16

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes  The MSS 4WD circuit is intact. GO to  M4
    No  REPAIR circuit.
  4. M4 CHECK THE MSS 4WD CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect the MSS C284.

    • Disconnect the TCCM C2371A.

    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?

    Yes  GO to  M5
    No  REPAIR Circuit.
  5. M5 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE TCCM

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect the TCCM C2371B.

    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2371B-6

      Ground

Is the voltage greater than 12 volts?

Yes  The TCCM is not passing voltage through to the MSS. INSTALL a new TCCM. REFER to: Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) .
No  INSPECT the TCCM VBATT fuses. If fuse(s) are OPEN, locate and repair short to ground. If fuses are intact, REPAIR Circuit.
  6. M6 CHECK THE MSS RESISTANCE VALUES

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect MSS C284.

    • Refer to tables below, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      MSS pin 2 component side.
      GFD464773Courtesy of FORD MOTOR COMPANY
      MSS, pin 3 component side.
      MSS Position  Resistance (+/-1%)
      2H 619 ohms
4A (Torque on Demand only) 270 ohms
      4H 130 ohms
      4L 62 ohms

Is the resistance within specification in each position?

    Yes  GO to  M7
No  INSTALL a new MSS. REFER to: Mode Select Switch (MSS) - Raptor .
  7. M7 CHECK THE MSS 4WD AND MSS RTN CIRCUITS FOR HIGH RESISTANCE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect the TCCM C2371A.

    • Disconnect the MSS C284.
