Pinpoint Test BV : The Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime Is Inoperative

  1. BV1 CHECK THE SEATBELT WARNING CHIME OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Monitor the seatbelt warning chime when the ignition switch is transitioned from OFF to RUN for 6 seconds.

    Does the seatbelt warning chime operate for approximately 6 seconds? 

    Yes  GO to  BV2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test CB 
  2. BV2 CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMPS OPERATION

    • Open and close the driver door.

    • Observe the interior lamps.

    Do the interior lamps operate correctly from the driver door? 

    Yes  GO to  BV3
    No  REFER to: Interior Lighting .
  3. BV3 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network .
    No  GO to  BV4
  4. BV4 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Is DTC B10F1:14 present? 

    Yes  GO to  BV5
    No  GO to  BV9
  5. BV5 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Insert the key into the ignition cylinder.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  BV9
    No  GO to  BV6
  6. BV6 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND

    • Remove the key from the ignition cylinder.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  BV7
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  7. BV7 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

    • Disconnect Ignition Switch C250 .

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  BV8
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. BV8 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH

    • Perform the ignition switch component test.

    Is the ignition switch OK? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new ignition lock cylinder housing.
    No  INSTALL a new ignition switch. Refer to: Ignition Switch .
  9. BV9 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors and related in-line connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the BCM connectors and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, Refer to BCM Hardware Testing .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
