Reductant Tank: Removal

NOTE:
Selective Catalyst Reduction (SRC)/Reductant system components are very sensitive to external contamination. Any possible measure should be taken to prevent contamination from entering the system while servicing it.
NOTE:
Discard the drained reductant fluid. Always refill the reductant tank with new reductant fluid to avoid reductant system contamination.
NOTE:
Fresh reductant fluid should be the only lubricant used in the assembly of these components. The use of any other lubricant ESPECIALLY PETROLEUM BASED LUBES may cause damage to the system.
NOTE:
Reductant fluid can corrode some metals. Reductant fluid must be stored and transported carefully. Reductant fluid must be disposed of according to local regulations.
NOTE:
Petroleum contamination will cause permanent damage to the reductant system.
NOTE:
During the removal or installation of components, cap, tape or otherwise appropriately protect all openings and tubes/fittings to prevent the ingress of dirt or other contamination. Remove caps, tape and other protective materials prior to installation.
NOTE:
There are many body, chassis, frame and reductant tank configurations, it is not possible to cover all of the different configurations.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Drain the reductant tank. Refer to: Reductant Tank Draining .

Remove the lower reductant tank cover access door retainer and then remove the lower reductant tank cover access door.

NOTE: When disconnecting the reductant pressure line from the reductant pump assembly, gently press the reductant pressure line connector towards the pump assembly and hold. Then press the connector tabs and pull the connector straight off the pump assembly nipple. Failure to follow these instructions may cause damage to the reductant pump assembly and the reductant pressure line.NOTE: Disconnect the reductant pressure line before disconnecting the reductant pressure line heater electrical connector.NOTE: Inboard frame mounted reductant tank shown, others are similar.
- Disconnect the reductant pressure line quick release coupling from the reductant pump. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Disconnect the reductant pressure line heater electrical connector.
- Release the reductant pressure line from the reductant tank cover retainer and the reductant tank.

Disconnect the reductant tank main harness electrical connector, and then release the electrical connector retainer.

- Disconnect the reductant tank vent hose. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Disconnect the reductant tank fill hose. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
Inboard Frame Mounted Reductant Tank
- Remove the reductant tank retaining bolts and then remove the reductant tank.
Outboard Frame Mounted Reductant Tank
NOTE: On some chassis cab vehicles, the outboard frame mounted reductant tank may be mounted on the inboard side of the frame rail. - Remove the reductant tank strap nuts, remove the straps, and then remove the reductant tank.

If needed disconnect the reductant pump control module electrical connector.

If needed disconnect the reductant pump and heater assembly electrical connector.
- If needed disconnect reductant pump control module connector and detach wiring clip.
Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
Inboard Frame Mounted Reductant Tank
- Remove and discard the reductant tank retaining J-nuts.
