Main Control Valve Body

  1. Remove the TFT sensor.

    1. Pull the tab.
    2. Rotate the TFT sensor 90 degrees counterclockwise and remove it from the main control valve body.

  2. Remove the E-clip on the manual control valve and remove the manual control valve from the main control valve body.

  3. Remove the bolts and remove the solenoid retainer.

  4. NOTE: Solenoids are calibrated from the factory and are not all the same. To replace a solenoid, match the replacement solenoid type (normally high/normally low) and the band number with the original solenoid or harsh/erratic shifts, harsh/soft engagement or damage to the transmission can occur.

    Number the solenoids 1 through 7 and number the main control solenoid ports 1 through 7 to correspond to the solenoid. Pull the solenoids out of the main control valve body.

    Remove the main control bolts from the main control.

  6. NOTE: Many components and surfaces in the main control valve body are precision machined. Use care when handling the upper and lower valve body or damage can occur to the machined surfaces.
    NOTE: The main control is positioned on the lower valve body before separating the upper valve body from the lower valve body to keep the solenoid dampers from falling out of the lower valve body.

    Position the main control on the lower valve body and separate the upper valve body from the lower valve body.

  7. Remove the solenoid dampers from the lower valve body.

  8. Remove the bolts and remove the separator plate (7Z490) from the upper valve body assembly.

  9. NOTE: Note the location of the check balls, the relief valves and the control valve inlet nozzle for assembly.

    Remove the check balls, the relief valves and the pump inlet nozzle.

  10. NOTE: Note the location of the retaining clips, caps, valves and valve springs for assembly. Failure to install the components in the correct location will result in harsh/soft or no shifts or damage to the transmission.

    Remove the retaining clips, caps, valves and valve springs from each bore of the upper and lower valve body assembly. Note the location and order of the components for assembly.

    1. Upper valve body

  11. NOTE: Many components and surfaces in the main control valve body are precision machined. Use care when cleaning and assembling the upper and lower valve body or damage can occur to the machined surfaces.

    Clean and inspect the upper and lower valve body for damage. Inspect the passages and valves for damage and clean any excessive debris. Install new components as necessary.

  12. Clean and inspect the separator plate for damage. Install a new separator plate if necessary.

  13. NOTE: Make sure to install the retaining clips, caps, valves and valve springs in the correct locations in the upper and lower valve body or harsh/soft or no shifts or damage to the transmission can occur.
    NOTE: A clean dry valve should fall out of the clean dry valve bore under its own weight. Carefully inspect valve and bore for debris or damage if the valve does not move freely.

    Clean and install the retaining clips, caps, valves and valve springs into the bores of the upper and lower valve body.

  14. Clean and install the check balls, the relief valves and the control valve inlet nozzle in the locations they were removed from.

  15. NOTE: Make sure to align the relief valves to the holes they rest in.

    Position the separator plate on the upper valve body and install the bolts.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  16. Clean and install the solenoid dampers in the lower valve body.

  17. Position the upper valve body on the lower valve body.

  18. NOTE: Make sure the 4 longer main control bolts are installed in the locations they were removed.

    Install the main control bolts. Tighten the main control bolts from the inside out.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  19. NOTE: Solenoids are calibrated from the factory and are not all the same. To replace a solenoid, match the replacement solenoid type (normally high/normally low) and the band number with the original solenoid or harsh shifts or damage to the transmission can occur.

    Inspect the solenoid O-rings for damage and install new O-rings if needed. Inspect the solenoid screens for contamination and install new solenoids if needed. If new solenoids are needed, identify which type (normally high/normally low) of solenoid it is and use the charts below to get the correct part number for the solenoid band number.

  20. Position the solenoids in the main control valve body in the same ports they were numbered and removed from.

  21. NOTE: Make sure the solenoid retainer is installed so the bolt hole surface rests flush against the main control valve body assembly or damage to the solenoids or retainer can occur.

    Install the solenoid retainer and the bolts.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  22. Install the manual control valve in the main control and install the E-clip on the manual control valve.

  23. Install the TFT sensor in the main control valve body and rotate it 90 degrees clockwise to lock it in place.

    1. Install the TFT sensor in the main control valve body.
    2. Rotate the TFT sensor 90 degrees clockwise to lock the lock tab in place.
