Crankcase Vent Oil Separator: Removal

  1. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  2. Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  3. Remove the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) intake pipe. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .
  4. Remove the fuel filter outlet tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  5. Disconnect the fuel filter inlet tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  6. Disconnect the fuel filter injector return tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  7. Remove and discard the left fuel supply tube bolts.

  8. Remove and discard the fuel injection pump supply tube assembly bracket bolt and position the fuel tube out of the way.

  9. Remove the fuel filter and bracket assembly bolts and then remove the fuel filter and bracket assembly.

  10. NOTE: The crankcase vent oil separator must be replaced whenever the crankcase vent oil separator outlet hose is disconnected from the lower intake manifold.

    Cut and remove the rubber sleeve cover.

    • Release the crankcase vent oil separator outlet hose retainer tabs, break the retaining tabs as needed.

    • Disconnect the crankcase vent oil separator outlet hose from the lower intake manifold.

  11. NOTE: Place a shop towel under the oil separator to catch any oil that may leak from the oil separator when removed.

    Remove the crankcase vent oil separator bolts and then remove the crankcase vent oil separator.
