Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes - 6.2L V8: Installation

All vehicles 

  1. Inspect the transmission fluid tube backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary.

    1. Seal (7D285)

      Material: Motorcraft® MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (WSS-M2C938-A) (MERCON® LV,)

    2. Backing ring (7J324)

  2. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes and the bolt.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    Vehicles equipped with a 6.8L engine 

  3. Position the wiring harness and connect the starter motor wiring.

    1. Connect the ground cable and install the nut.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    2. Connect the starter motor solenoid control wire and install the nut.

      Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)

    3. Connect the starter motor solenoid battery cable and install the nut.

      Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

  4. Close the starter motor solenoid battery cable cover.

  5. Install the battery cable bracket nut.

    Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

  6. Position the bracket and install the transmission fluid cooler tubes bracket nut.

    Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

  7. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

    All vehicles 

  8. NOTE: The tab on the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly bracket may interfere with the accessory drive belt. To prevent damage to the belt, bend the tab as shown.

    Bend the tab on the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly bracket down toward the front of the vehicle. Verify the minimum clearance.

    Dimension: 0.4 in (10 mm)

  9. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes bracket nut.

    Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

  10. Install the transmission fluid cooler front tubes and connect the transmission fluid cooler front tubes retainer.

  11. Connect the transmission fluid cooler tubes to the transmission fluid cooler front tubes.

  12. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes-to-transmission fluid cooler front tubes secondary latches.

  13. Connect the transmission-to-in-tank cooler tube.

  15. Install and connect the transmission fluid in-tank cooler-to-auxiliary cooler tube.

  16. Install the transmission fluid in-tank cooler-to-auxiliary cooler tube secondary latch.

  17. Connect the auxiliary transmission fluid cooler LH tube.

  19. Install the transmission fluid cooler tube coupling secondary latches.

  20. Install the radiator grille. Refer to: Radiator Grille .
  21. Check the transmission fluid level and adjust as necessary. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check .
