Cylinder Head LH: Installation

Install the new cylinder head dowels and the cylinder head gasket.

NOTE: Using too much engine oil on the threads of the cylinder head bolts may cause damage to the threads and poor sealing. Using anti-seize compounds, grease or any other lubricants other than engine oil on the cylinder head bolt threads may affect the true torque value of the bolts.

NOTE: Lightly lubricate the new M12 cylinder head bolt threads and flanges with clean engine oil.
- Install the LH cylinder head.
- Install the cylinder head bolts finger tight.
  Material: Motorcraft® SAE 10W-30 Super Duty Diesel Motor Oil / XO-10W30-QSDF (WSS-M2C171-F1)

Tighten the cylinder head bolts.
- Torque: Tighten bolts 1 through 18 to : 168 lb.in (19 Nm)
- Torque: Tighten bolts 1 through 18 to : 36 lb.ft (49 Nm)
- Torque: Tighten bolts 1 through 18, a second time to : 36 lb.ft (49 Nm)
- Torque: Tighten bolts 1 through 18, a third time to : 36 lb.ft (49 Nm)
- Torque: Tighten bolts 1 through 18, an additional : 90 deg.
- Tighten bolts 1 through 18, a second time, an additional : 90 deg.
- Tighten bolts 1 through 18, a third time, an additional : 90 deg.
- Tighten bolts 19 through 23 to : 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

Position back the ground strap and install the bolt. Connect the wire retainer.
Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

1. Install the power steering pump mounting bracket and the bolts.
  Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
2. Install the remaining bolts.
  Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

If equipped with dual generators, install the idler pulley.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

Connect the battery wire harness retainer to the bracket.

- Position the wire and install the nut. Position back the boot.
  Torque: 159 lb.in (18 Nm)
- Connect the generator electrical connector.

Position back the power steering pump and install the new bolts.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

Install the bolt into battery wire harness.
Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

Install the following items:
1. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Outlet Pipe .
2. Refer to: Coolant Crossover Manifold .
3. Refer to: Rocker Arm .
4. Refer to: Exhaust Manifold LH .
5. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt .
6. Refer to: Cooling Fan Stator .
