Section 250 (Engine - 6.8L Triton-30V - V10): Removal: Engine

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Remove the following items:
- Cooling module. Refer to: Cooling Module .
- Cooling fan. Refer to: Cooling Fan .
- Accessory drive belt. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt .
- A/C compressor. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor - 6.8L Triton-30V - V10 .
- Generator. Refer to: Generator - 6.8L Triton-30V - V10 .
- Intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
- Coolant crossover manifold. Refer to: Coolant Crossover Manifold .
- Exhaust Y-pipe. Refer to: Exhaust Y-Pipe .
- Oil cooler. Refer to: Oil Cooler .
- Starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
- Transmission filler tube. Refer to: Transmission Filler Tube - 6.2L V8/6.8L Triton-30V - V10 .
- Cowl panel. Refer to: Cowl Panel .

- Detach the wiring harness retainer from the rear of the RH cylinder head.
- Remove the bolt and position the ground strap aside.
- Disconnect the heater hose.
- Remove the bolt and the coolant tube.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
- Remove the bolt on the rear of the LH cylinder head and position the ground strap aside.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.

- Disconnect the CMP sensor electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.
- Remove the nut and position the wiring harness aside.

- Disconnect the coil-on-plug electrical connectors.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.

- Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
- Install the drain plug.
Torque: 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)
- Remove the bolts and the transmission inspection plate.
- Remove the torque converter nut access cover.

NOTE: Only rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction.
Remove and discard the torque converter nuts. Use the General Equipment: Magnetic Socket
- Disconnect the degas bottle coolant outlet hose and the lower radiator hose.
- Remove and discard the bolts and position the power steering pump assembly aside.

NOTE: Failure to replace the transmission support insulator nuts may result in transmission support insulator damage. New transmission support insulator nuts will be installed during engine installation.NOTE: If the transmission support insulator stud loosens when the transmission support insulator nut is removed, the stud must be discarded and a new stud installed.
Loosen the transmission support insulator-to-crossmember nuts.

NOTE: The engine mount through bolt must be discarded and a new bolt installed, or damage to the vehicle or engine mount may occur.NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the engine mount through bolt or damage to the engine mount may occur.
Remove and discard the RH engine mount through bolt.

NOTE: Failure to replace the engine mount nuts may result in engine mount damage.NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine mount nuts or damage to the engine mount may occur.
Remove and discard the RH engine mount nuts.

NOTE: The engine mount through bolt must be discarded and a new bolt installed, or damage to the vehicle or engine mount may occur.NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the engine mount through bolt or damage to the engine mount may occur.
Remove and discard the LH engine mount through bolt.

NOTE: Failure to replace the engine mount nuts may result in engine mount damage.NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine mount nuts or damage to the engine mount may occur.
Remove and discard the LH engine mount nuts.
- Remove the transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Remove the transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Remove the upper transmission-to-engine bolts and position the fuel lines and bracket aside.
- Install the special tools and the bolts. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1507 Brackets, Support., 303-F047 Lifting Bracket, Engine.
- Using a Floor Crane and the special tool, raise the engine to access the engine mounts. Use Special Service Tool: 303-F047 Lifting Bracket, Engine. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane

NOTE: Do not support the transmission by the fluid pan, failure to follow this instruction may result in serious damage to the transmission.
Support the bellhousing of the transmission with a suitable floor jack and a block of wood. Use the General Equipment: Trolley Jack Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
- Remove the LH engine mount.
- Remove the RH engine mount.
- Remove the engine assembly from the vehicle. Use Special Service Tool: 303-F047 Lifting Bracket, Engine. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane
- Install the special tool and the bolt. Install Special Service Tool: 307-346 (T97T-7902-A) Retainer, Torque Converter.
