Fuel Tank - Vehicles With: Aft of Axle Fuel Tank: Removal

NOTE: Fuel systems will vary in configuration with different wheelbases. Typical application shown.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  4. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining .
  5. NOTE: Typical application shown.

    Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe and vent hose from the fuel filler neck.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    Using a suitable lifting and lowering tool, support the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank strap bolts and partially lower the fuel tank for access.

    Torque: 66 lb.ft (90 Nm)

  7. NOTE: Typical application shown.

    Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors, the fuel supply and vent tube quick release couplings. Remove the fuel tank assembly from the vehicle. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

    If necessary, remove the fuel tank shield strap nuts and remove the fuel tank.

    Torque: 53 lb.ft (72 Nm)
