Pinpoint Test Y: The Glow Plug (Wait To Start) Indicator Is Never Or Always On

If the glow plug indication request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the diesel glow plug (wait to start) indicator to its last state (on or off) based upon the last message received.
If the glow plug indication request message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the diesel glow plug (wait to start) indicator off.

- Y1 CARRY OUT THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the IPC glow plug indicator (GLOW_PLUG) PID.
- Command the glow plug indicator on then off while observing the glow plug indicator.
Does the glow plug indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?
Yes GO to Y2 No INSTALL a new IPC. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . - Y2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to DTC Chart: IPC . No GO to Y3 - Y3 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, check GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: Communications Network . No DIAGNOSE all PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article .
