Pinpoint Test R: The Diesel Exhaust Fluid Level Low RTT (RECONFIGURABLE Telltale) Indicator Is Never Or Always On

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Diesel Exhaust Fluid Level Low RTT Indicator. REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the diesel exhaust fluid level indicator request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the diesel exhaust fluid level low indicator to its last state (on or off) based upon the last message received.

    If the diesel exhaust fluid level indicator request message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the diesel exhaust fluid level low indicator to on.

    Possible Sources 

    • Diesel exhaust fluid level concern
    • Message center concern
    • PCM concern
    • GWM concern
    • IPC

    Visual Inspection and Pre-checks 

    • Verify the diesel exhaust fluid level tank has fluid.

  2. R1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Close all doors and the hood.

    • Clear all message center warnings by pressing the OK button for each warning present.

    • NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center cycles through each of the warning indicators. Allow the message center to cycle through each display while determining whether the door ajar message center warning is active.

      Monitor the door ajar message center warning.

    • Open the driver door.

    • Clear the message center popup warning.

    • Monitor the door ajar message center warning.

    Does the driver door ajar message center warning turn off with the driver door closed and turn on with the driver door open? 

    Yes  GO to  R2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test S 

  3. R2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: IPC .
    No  GO to  R3

  4. R3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.

    Are any diesel exhaust fluid related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article .
    No  GO to  R4

  5. R4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network .
    No  If the diesel exhaust fluid level indicator is always on, DIAGNOSE all PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article . If the diesel exhaust fluid level indicator is never on, VERIFY the diesel exhaust fluid level is low or empty. GO to  R5

  6. R5 CHECK THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID LEVEL WITH THE REDUCTANT TANK EMPTY

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Drain the diesel exhaust fluid from the reductant tank.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Monitor the diesel exhaust fluid level indicator.

    Did the diesel exhaust fluid level indicator turn on? 

    Yes  The system is operating correctly at this time. The diesel exhaust fluid level wasn't low enough to turn on the diesel exhaust fluid level indicator.
    No  Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING
