The Forward Collision Alert Warning Indicator Is Never Or Always On 

1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

   See Collision Warning Indicator. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

   If the forward collision warning indicator request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the collision warning indicator to its last state (on or off) based upon the last message received.

   If the forward collision warning indicator request message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the collision warning indicator on.

   Possible Sources 

   • Communication concern
   • Forward collision alert system concern
   • IPMA
   • GWM concern
   • IPC

2. Q1 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL
   
   
   • Ignition ON.
   • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
   • Select the IPC all warning indicators (ALL_LAMP) PID.
   • Command all the warning indicators on then off while observing the forward collision alert warning indicator.

   Does the forward collision alert warning indicator turn on when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

   Yes

   GO to  Q2

   No	INSTALL a new IPC.Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)

3. Q2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
   
   
   • Ignition ON.
   • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

   Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

   Yes	REFER to DTC Chart: IPC .

   No

   GO to  Q3

4. Q3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) SELF-TEST
   
   
   • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPMA self-test.

   Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

   Yes	REFER to: Lane Keeping System .

   No

   GO to  Q4

5. Q4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
   
   
   • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

   Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

   Yes	REFER to: Communications Network .

   No	DIAGNOSE the forward collision alert system. REFER to: CRUISE CONTROL - Vehicles With: Adaptive Cruise Control/Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control .
