Pinpoint Test P: The Charging System Warning Indicator Is Never Or Always On
- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
See Charging System Warning Indicator. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .
If the charging system indicator request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the charging system warning indicator to its last state (on or off) based upon the last message received.
If the charging system indicator request message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the charging system warning indicator on.

- P1 CARRY OUT THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the IPC charging system warning indicator (CHARGE_LMP) PID.
- Command the charging system warning indicator on then off while observing the charging system warning indicator.
Does the charging system warning indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?
Yes GO to P2 No INSTALL a new IPC.Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - P2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to DTC Chart: IPC . No GO to P3 - P3 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: Communications Network . No GO to P4 - P4 CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM OPERATION
- Check the charging system operation.
Does the charging system operate correctly?
Yes If the charging system warning indicator is never on, the system is operating correctly at this time. If the charging system warning indicator is always on, DIAGNOSE all BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) . No DIAGNOSE the charging system. REFER to appropriate Charging System article .
