Front Halfshaft RH: Installation

  1. Replace the RH halfshaft seal. Refer to: Halfshaft Seal RH .
  2. NOTE: Install a new component if it is damaged or has excessive wear.

    Clean and inspect the inner halfshaft splines and mating surfaces.

  3. If equipped.

NOTE: Install a new component if it is damaged or has excessive wear.

Clean and inspect the outer halfshaft splines and mating surfaces.

NOTE: Make sure that the strut is not moved more than necessary to prevent damage to top mount.
NOTE: The inner constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 18 deg..
NOTE: The outer constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 45 deg..
NOTE: Do not fully install shaft at this time.

Using seal protector, insert the halfshaft splines through the seal protector. Remove the seal protector before completely installing the halfshaft.

Inspect and install the RH halfshaft through the seal protector.

NOTE: Make sure that new components are installed.

Install the new halfshaft retaining strap and the new halfshaft retaining strap nuts.

Torque:Stage 1: 44 lb.in (5 Nm); Stage 2: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

Rotate the steering wheel fully to the LH side.

NOTE: Make sure that the strut is not moved more than necessary to prevent damage to top mount.
NOTE: The inner constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 18 deg..
NOTE: The outer constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 45 deg..

Position the RH halfshaft into the wheel bearing and hub.

Using special tool, install the RH halfshaft into the wheel bearing and hub. Use Special Service Tool: 204-161 (T97P-1175-A) Installer, Halfshaft.

Torque: 33 lb.ft (45 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that new components are installed.

Insert the lower ball joint into the wheel knuckle and install a new lower ball joint bolt and nut.

Torque: 61 lb.ft (83 Nm)

Install the flexible brake hose bolt.

Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

Attach the tie rod and install a new tie rod nut

Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

NOTE: Do not tighten the front wheel hub nut with the vehicle on the ground. The nut must be tightened to specification before the vehicle is lowered onto the wheels. Wheel bearing damage will occur if the wheel bearing is loaded with the weight of the vehicle applied.
NOTE: Install and tighten the new wheel hub nut to specification in a continuous rotation. Always install a new wheel hub nut after loosening or when not tightened to specification in a continuous rotation or damage to the components may occur.
NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.
NOTE: Make sure a new nut is installed.

Using an assistant to apply brake pressure, install the wheel hub nut.

Torque:Stage 1: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm); Stage 2: 90 deg.

Install the wheel and tire. Refer to: WHEELS AND TIRES .
