Pinpoint Test F: A Single Power Window Is Inoperative - LH (Left-Hand) Rear
- NOTE: If both rear windows are inoperative, GO to Pinpoint Test C
Refer to POWER WINDOWS for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
Possible Sources
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Master window control switch
- LH rear window control switch
- LH rear window regulator motor
Visual Inspection and Pre-checks
- Verify the lock-out switch is in the UNLOCK position.
- F1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE REAR WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Rear Window Control Switch LH C717.
- Ignition ON.
- Make sure the rear passenger window lock-out switch (located in the master window control switch) is in the UNLOCK position.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C717-2 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to F2 No REPAIR the circuit. - F2 CHECK THE MASTER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH NORMALLY CLOSED GROUND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to F4 No GO to F3 - F3 CHECK THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Master Window Control Switch C504C.
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new master window control switch. REFER to: Front Door Window Control Switch . No REPAIR the circuit in question. - F4 CHECK THE LH (LEFT-HAND) REAR POWER WINDOW UPWARD AND/OR DOWNWARD OPERATION
- Ignition ON.
- To check downward window operation, connect fused jumper wires:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C717-2 C717-7 C717-6 C717-1
- To check upward window operation, connect fused jumper wires:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C717-2 C717-1 C717-6 C717-7
Does the LH rear window move up and/or down?
Yes REMOVE the jumper wires. If the rear window did not operate from the rear window control switch, INSTALL a new LH rear window control switch. If the rear window did not operate from the master window control switch, INSTALL a new master window control switch. REFER to: Front Door Window Control Switch . No REMOVE the jumper wires. GO to F5 - F5 CHECK THE LH (LEFT-HAND) REAR POWER WINDOW CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LH Rear Power Window Motor C703.
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes MAKE SURE there are no mechanical binding conditions preventing the glass mechanism from operating correctly. If a mechanical binding issue is found, REPAIR as necessary. If no mechanical binding condition exists, INSTALL a new LH rear window regulator motor. No REPAIR the circuit in question.
