Countershaft - 5.0L 32V Ti-VCT/5.0L Ti-VCT V8 (308kW/418PS): Disassembly

NOTE:
Hand-tighten the Bearing Puller to prevent gear damage.
NOTE:
Support the countershaft while using the hydraulic press to prevent damage to the shaft or gears.
NOTE:
Removing the Forth and Third gears may take up to 18, 000 pounds of force. Do not heat the gear.
- Using the bearing separator and a hydraulic press, remove the 4th gear.
- Inspect the 4th gear for wear or damage. Install a new gear as necessary. Use the General Equipment: Bearing Separator Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press
- Using the bearing separator and a hydraulic press, remove the 6th and 3rd gear.
- Inspect the 3rd and 6th gear for wear or damage. Install a new gear as necessary. Use the General Equipment: Bearing Separator Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press
- Remove the 6th gear needle bearing.
- Inspect the 6th gear needle bearing for wear or damage. Install a new needle bearing as necessary.
- Remove the 5th/6th gear synchronizer assembly snap ring.
- Using the bearing separator and a hydraulic press, remove the 5th gear and the 5th/6th gear synchronizer assembly. Use the General Equipment: Bearing Separator Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press

NOTE: Prior to removing the synchronizer ring, note the position of the synchronizer ring.
Remove the 5th gear from the 5th gear synchronizer ring assembly. Remove the 5th gear synchronizer ring assembly from the 5th/6th gear synchronizer assembly.
- Inspect the 5th gear for wear or damage. Install a new gear as necessary.
- Inspect the 5th/6th gear synchronizer assembly for wear or damage. Install a new 5th/6th gear synchronizer assembly as necessary.
- Inspect the synchronizer ring components for wear or damage. Install new components as necessary.

NOTE: When removing the bearing, do not over expand the bearing cage or damage to the bearing cage can occur.
Remove the 5th gear needle bearing.
- Inspect the 5th gear needle bearing for wear or damage. Install a new needle bearing as necessary.
- Inspect the countershaft for scoring or worn or damaged splines. Install a new countershaft as necessary.
