Transmission Jack

Materials

Motorcraft® GT500 Dual Clutch Transmission Fluid XT-14-L -
  1. If replacing the transmission and the new transmission is equipped. Remove and discard the shipping park override bolt from the new transmission.

  2. If replacing the transmission. Install the transmission mount and the bolts.

    Torque: 76 lb.ft (103 Nm)

    1. Raise the transmission. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
    2. Position the transmission in place. If needed, have an assistant rotate the crank.

  3. Install the clutch housing bolts.

    1. 60 mm Studbolt
    2. 60 mm Studbolt
    3. 80 mm Studbolt
    4. 60 mm Studbolt
    5. 60 mm Bolt
    6. 60 mm Bolt
    7. 75 mm Bolt
    8. 60 mm Studbolt

      Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  4. Position the harness and install the transmission harness retainer.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  5. Connect the transmission vent.

    1. Connect the bulk head connector by turn it clockwise.
    2. Connect the park position sensor.
    3. Connect the shaft speed sensors.
    4. Attach the harness push type retainers.

  6. Connect the park position cable to the park release lever, install the bolts and attach the park position cable push type retainers to the transmission.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  7. Raise the transmission jack and transmission. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

  8. Install the transmission support and the transmission support retainers.

    Torque: Bolts: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm) Nuts: 52 lb.ft (70 Nm)

  9. Remove the trans jack and support strap. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

  10. Position the harness and install the retainer.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  11. Connect the bulkhead connector by turning it clockwise, connect the connector and attach the harness push type retainer.

    1. Connect the ISS sensor.
    2. Attach the HO2S sensor connector to the transmission.
    3. Attach the harness push type retainers to the transmission.

  12. Inspect the transmission case to be sure that the transmission fluid cooler inlet tube seals and backing rings were removed with the transmission fluid cooler tubes and are not stuck in the transmission case. If the transmission fluid cooler tube seals or backing rings are stuck in the transmission case, remove the seals and backing rings, if needed.

  13. Inspect and lubricate the band seals and backing rings.

    1. Backing ring.
    2. Band seal.

  14. Install the starter. Refer to: Starter Motor
  15. Install the rear transmission fluid cooler tube bracket and retainers, attach the starter harness pushpin to the cooler fluid bracket.

    Torque: Bolts: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) Nut: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  16. Install the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes and the bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  17. Install the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes bracket nuts.

    Torque: bracket nut : 35 lb.ft (48 Nm) bracket bolts : 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  18. Install the driveshaft. Refer to: Driveshaft
  19. Connect the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes to the front transmission fluid cooler tubes and install the retaining clips.

  20. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes secondary latches.

  21. Position the degas bottle and install the bolts.

    Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  22. Install the underbody shield and the bolts.

  23. Fill the transmission with fluid. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill 
  24. If a new transmission was installed, the TCM must be programmed with the Transmission Identification (TRID) data. The 11-digit TRID number can be found on the transmission barcode label on the right side of the transmission case. Using the diagnostic scan tool, carry out the following routine(s): Transmission Characterization/Solenoid IDN (identification number).
