Pinpoint Test B: TCM Internal Faults

  1. Refer to TRANSMISSION CONTROLS - TR9070 for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The TCM runs routine diagnostic checks on itself. If it detects a fault with internal hardware, programming or performance, it will set a DTC.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    TCM P0602:00 Powertrain Control Module Programming Error: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a TCM programming fault.
    TCM P0604:00 Internal Control Module Random Access Memory (RAM) Error: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a fault in the TCM RAM.
    TCM P0605:00 Internal Control Module Read Only Memory (ROM) Error: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a fault in the TCM ROM.
    TCM P0606:00 Control Module Processor: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a fault in the TCM processor.
    TCM P0607:00 Control Module Performance: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a fault in the TCM.
    TCM P060A:00 Internal Control Module Monitoring Processor Performance: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a fault in the TCM.
    TCM P060B:00 Internal Control Module A/D Processing Performance: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a fault in the TCM.
    TCM P060C:00 Internal Control Module Main Processor Performance: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a fault in the TCM main processor.
    TCM P0610:00 Control Module Vehicle Options Error: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a difference in the programmed vehicle equipment compared to the actual vehicle equipment.
    TCM P0613:00 TCM Processor: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a fault in the TCM processor.
    TCM P064F:00 Unauthorized Software/Calibration Detected: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects an unauthorized change in the software or calibration of the TCM.
    TCM P06B8:00 Internal Control Module Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) Error: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects an error in the nonvolatile random access memory (NVRAM).
    TCM P1188:00 Calibration Memory: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a fault in the TCM calibration.
    TCM U2100:00 Initial Configuration Not Complete: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the vehicle identification is not programmed.

    • TCM

  2. B1 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the TCM.

    Are diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0882 and/or P0883 present in the TCM? 

    Yes  RESOLVE those diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. REFER to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart .
    No  GO to  B2
  3. B2 PROGRAM THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) WITH THE LATEST CALIBRATION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, reprogram the TCM with the latest calibration. REFER to: MODULE PROGRAMMING .

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the Transmission Characterization/Solenoid IDN (identification number) routine.

    • Start the engine.

    • Let the engine idle for 1 minute.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.

    Did the DTC return? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) 
    No  The fault is not present at this time. It may have been caused by a module programming error.
