Pinpoint Test A: P06E4, P0882, P0883

  1. Refer to TRANSMISSION CONTROLS - TR9070 for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The TCM is supplied powered through a fused circuit which is hot at all times. It is grounded through a single ground circuit. A wake up circuit, which is hot with the ignition in start or run only, signals the TCM to power on when the ignition is in the start or run positions.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    TCM P06E4:00 Control Module Wake-up Circuit Performance: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects an open or a short to ground in the TCM wake-up circuit. The transmission will default to 7th gear in Drive when this DTC is present.
    TCM P0882:00 TCM Power Input Signal Low: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects low voltage in the TCM power circuit.
    TCM P0883:00 TCM Power Input Signal High: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects high voltage in the TCM power circuitry.

    Possible Sources 

    • BJB fuses F19 (10A) and F66 (5A)
    • Circuit open or shorted
    • TCM

  2. A1 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the TCM.

    Are diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P06E4, P0882 and/or P0883 present? 

    Yes  RESOLVE diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0882 and/or P0883 first. GO to  A2 For DTC P064E, GO to  A8
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time.
  3. A2 CHECK FOR CHARGING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) IN THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the PCM.

    Are any charging system diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present in the PCM? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the charging system concern. REFER to: Charging System - 5.2L 32V Ti-VCT - Supercharged
    No  GO to  A3
  4. A3 CHECK THE BATTERY CONDITION AND STATE OF CHARGE

    • Carry out the Battery Condition Test. REFER to: Battery

    Did the battery pass the condition test? 

    Yes  GO to  A4
    No  INSTALL a new battery. REFER to: Battery
  5. A4 CHECK THE CHARGING VOLTAGE

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

    • Turn off all interior lights, exterior lights and accessories.

    • NOTE: Do not allow the engine speed to increase above 2, 000 RPM while carrying out this step or the generator may self-excite and result in default charging system output voltage. If engine speed goes above 2, 000 RPM, turn the engine off and restart the engine before carrying out this step.

      Start and run the engine at approximately 1, 500 RPM for 3 minutes while monitoring the battery voltage.

    Does the battery voltage stay between 13 and 15.2 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A5
    No  DIAGNOSE the charging system concern. REFER to: Charging System - 5.2L 32V Ti-VCT - Supercharged
  6. A5 RECHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.

    Did the DTC return? 

    Yes  GO to  A6
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have set due to a previous low battery voltage condition.
  7. A6 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) VBATT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage within 1 volt of the recorded battery voltage? 

    Yes  GO to  A7
    No  VERIFY BJB fuse F19 (10A) is OK. If OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the open circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the short circuit.
  8. A7 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A11
    No  VERIFY ground G101 is clean and properly fastened. If OK, REPAIR the circuit.
  9. A8 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) WAKE UP CIRCUIT FOR IGNITION ON VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A9
    No  VERIFY BJB fuse F66 (5A) is OK. If the fuse is OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the open circuit. If the fuse is not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the short to ground.
  10. A9 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) WAKE UP CIRCUIT FOR IGNITION OFF VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage approximately 0 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A10
    No  REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair a short to power.
  11. A10 RECHECK FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) P06E4

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the TCM.

    • Repeat the following steps 2 times:

      • Ignition OFF
      • Wait 10 seconds.
      • Ignition ON
      • Wait 10 seconds.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.

    Did DTC P06E4 return? 

    Yes  GO to  A11
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  12. A11 VERIFY ALL WIRING CONNECTIONS

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect TCM C1750A and all related in-line electrical connectors.

    • Using a good light source, inspect all  disconnected electrical connectors for the following:

      • corrosion - install new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals or pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
      • spread terminals - install new terminals as necessary

    • Reconnect TCM C1750A and all related in-line electrical connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB (general service bulletin), SSM (special service message) or FSA (Field Service Action). If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) 
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
