Oil Pan: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. NOTE: The oil pan must be installed and the fasteners finger tightened within 5 minutes of applying the sealant, and the fasteners must be final tightened within 15 minutes of applying the sealer. If this timing cannot be met the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.

    Apply an 12 mm (0.47 in) drop of silicone gasket and sealant of silicone gasket and sealant to the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate-to-cylinder block sealing surfaces and the engine front cover-to-cylinder block sealing surfaces.

    Material: Motorcraft® Silicone Gasket and Sealant / TA-30 (WSE-M4G323-A4)

  2. Install a new oil pan gasket.

  3. Install the oil pickup and fasteners.

    Torque: Oil pickup tube-to-oil pump bolts : Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) | Stage 2: 45° Oil pickup tube-to-spacer bolt : 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

  4. Install the oil pan and the fasteners.

    Torque: Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) | Stage 2: 45°

  5. Using an adjustable stand, raise the subframe into the installed position. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  6. Install the new front subframe nuts loosely.

    • Align the subframe to the alignment marks made during removal.

    • Install the new subframe bolts loosely.

  7. Tighten the subframe bolts in a cross pattern.

    Torque: 85 lb.ft (115 Nm)

  8. Tighten the front subframe nuts in a cross pattern.

    Torque: 85 lb.ft (115 Nm)

  9. Remove the adjustable stands. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  10. Install the stud bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  12. Position the coolant pump and install the bolts.

  13. Attach the oil cooler tube retainer to the subframe.

  14. If equipped, install the 2 brackets and the fasteners.

    Torque: Bracket-to-cooler bolts: 97 lb.in (11 Nm) Bracket-to-frame bolts: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  15. Attach the brake line retainers to the subframe.

  16. Attach the wiring harness retainers to the steering gear.

    1. Attach the wiring harness retainers.
    2. Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors.
    3. Attach the wiring harness bracket to the oil pan stud bolt and install the nut.

      Torque: 124 lb.in (14 Nm)

    4. Install the ground cable and the nut.

      Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  18. WARNING: DO NOT hammer, pry or force steering column and column shafts during installation or removal. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to steering components that could lead to loss of steering control during vehicle operation and could result in serious personal injury or death.
    WARNING: DO NOT attempt to remove or install the steering column lower u-joint at the steering gear without first loosening the steering column dash seal and fasteners. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to steering components that could lead to loss of steering control during vehicle operation and could result in serious personal injury or death.

    1. Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear universal joint.
    2. Install the new steering column shaft bolt.

      Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  19. Inspect the steering column lower shaft. Refer to: Steering Column Collapsed Check .
  20. Lower the engine onto the engine mounts and remove the special tools Remove Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine., 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine.

  21. Install the RH engine mount nut.

    Torque: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm)

  23. Connect the oil cooler hoses and install the bolts.

    Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  24. Install a new oil filter. Refer to: Engine Oil Draining and Filling .
  25. Install the following items:

    1. Transmission fluid cooler tubes. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes .
    2. Front suspension height sensors. Refer to: Front Suspension Height Sensor .
    3. Engine front undershield. Refer to: Engine Front Undershield - GT500 .
    4. Front wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .

  26. Remove the clips.

    • Install the CMP sensor and the bolt.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    • Attach the wiring harness retainer.

    • Connect the exhaust CMP sensor electrical connector and slide the insulator down.

  28. Install the battery heat shield and fasteners.

    Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  29. Install the following items:

    1. Battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
    2. Air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
    3. Air cleaner outlet pipe.
    4. Strut tower cross brace. Refer to: Strut Tower Cross Brace - GT500 .
    5. Hood. Refer to: Hood .

  30. Remove the holding device.

    1. Position the steering column dash seal.
    2. Tighten the steering column dash seal nuts.

      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  31. Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

  32. Connect the battery ground and positive cables. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  33. Check the transmission fluid level and adjust as necessary. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check .
  34. CARRY OUT the Ride Height Calibration routine in the diagnostic scan tool.
