Pinpoint Test C: Chipping Of Paint At Character Line On C-Pillar
- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The sliding door latch can be actuated from the interior or exterior door handle. When actuated, the door latch releases and allows the door to slide open. If the door is misaligned, it can cause chipping of the paint at the character line or the C-pillar.
Possible Sources
- Door misalignment
- Misaligned door wedges
Visual Inspection and Pre-checks
- Check for any obstructions
- Loose or damaged components
- Misaligned incorrectly attached components
- C1 CHECK THE SLIDING DOOR FOR CONTACT WITH THE C-PILLAR
- Open and close the sliding door.
- Verify whether there the physical contact between the sliding door and the C-pillar while opening or closing.
Does the sliding door contact the C-pillar?
Yes GO to C2 No Observe for any other symptom or malfunction in the sliding door. Review the Symptom Chart . - C2 CHECK FOR LOOSE OR DAMAGED COMPONENTS
- Verify that there are no loose or damaged components.
Are there any loose or damaged components?
Yes For loose components - Tighten the component to specification - Go to Symptom Chart and identify the concern. For damaged components - Replace the components as necessary. Refer to the removal and installation procedure in the Service Information. No GO to C3 - C3 CHECK THE ALIGNMENT OF THE WEDGES
- Check the wedges alignment. Refer to the wedge alignment procedure in this article.
Are the wedges aligned correctly?
Yes Check the Symptom Chart and identify the correct symptom. Check for normal operation. No Adjust the wedges as necessary. REFER to: Sliding Door Alignment .
