Valve Cover LH: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. NOTE: Installation of new seals is only required if damaged seals were removed.

    If removed, using the special tools, install the spark plug tube seals.

    Use Special Service Tool: 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer, 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

  2. NOTE: Installation of new seals is only required if damaged seals were removed.

    If removed, using the special tools, install the VCT oil control solenoid seals.

    Use Special Service Tool: 205-142 (T80T-4000-J) Installer, Differential Bearing Cone, 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

  3. Install a new valve cover gasket.

  4. NOTE: If the valve cover is not installed and the fasteners tightened within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned. To clean the sealing area, use silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.

    Apply an 8 mm (0.31 in) bead of Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the engine front cover-to-cylinder head joints.

  5. Install the valve cover and tighten the fasteners.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  6. Make sure the VCT seals in the valve cover are below the top of the VCT oil control solenoid electrical connector or the VCT seal may leak oil.

  7. Position the fuel tube bracket and install new fasteners.

    Torque: Fuel bracket nut: 71 lb.in (8 Nm) Fuel bracket bolt

    Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) Fuel bracket bolt

    Stage 2: 45°

    • Position the wiring harness and attach the wiring harness retainers.

    • Connect the CMP sensor electrical connectors.

  8. Position back the cabin heater coolant pump and install the nuts.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  9. Attach the pin-type retainer and connect the electrical connector.

    • Position the EVAP purge solenoid and hoses and install the stud bolt.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    • Connect the vacuum hose to the intake manifold and attach the hose retainer to the stud bolt.

      Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  10. Connect the vacuum hose to the LH turbocharger and attach the hose retainer.

  11. Install the LH ignition coil-on-plugs. Refer to: IGNITION COIL-ON-PLUG .
  12. Install the high-pressure fuel pump. Refer to: High-Pressure Fuel Pump .
    • Position the PCV tube and connect the quick release couplings.

    • Connect the crankcase pressure sensor electrical connector.

    • Install the oil level indicator.

  13. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect - Vehicles With: Single Battery . REFER to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: DUAL BATTERIES .
