Engine Front Cover: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect - Vehicles With: Single Battery . Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect - Vehicles With: Dual Batteries .
  4. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
    2. Refer to: Valve Cover LH .
    3. Refer to: Valve Cover RH .
    4. Refer to: Crankshaft Front Seal .

    • Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector and detach the retainer.

    • Disconnect the fuel vapor tube quick release coupling.

    • Remove the CAC outlet pipe.

  5. Remove the coolant pump. Refer to: Coolant Pump .
  6. Remove the bolts and the accessory drive belt tensioner.

    1. Remove the nut.
    2. Remove the bolt.
    3. Position the generator aside.
    4. Remove the stud bolt.

    Vehicles equipped with dual generators 

  7. Remove the A/C compressor.
  8. Remove the accessory drive bracket stud and bolt.

  9. Remove the bolts and the accessory drive bracket.

  10. Remove the engine front cover bolts.

  11. Using a pry tool on the pry pads shown in illustration, remove the engine front cover.

    Vehicles equipped with single generator 

  12. Remove the engine front cover bolts.

    All vehicles 

  14. Using the special tools, remove the engine front cover to coolant pipe seal.

    Use Special Service Tool: 205-150 (T80T-4000-S) Installer, Spindle Bearing, 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

    • Thoroughly wash the engine front cover to remove any foreign material, including any abrasive particles created during the cleaning process.

  15. Make sure that the mating faces of the engine block and oil pan are clean and free of foreign material. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
