High-Pressure Fuel Pump: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: Do not loosen any fittings or plugs on the high-pressure fuel pump.
  1. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  2. Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect - Vehicles With: Single Battery . Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect - Vehicles With: Dual Batteries .
  3. NOTE: When removing or installing the high-pressure fuel pump noise insulator, spreading the openings will reduce the risk of damage.

    Remove the high-pressure fuel pump noise insulator.

  4. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump electrical connector.

  5. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump fuel feed tube quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  6. NOTE: To release the fuel pressure in the high pressure fuel tube, wrap the high-pressure fuel pump flare nut with a shop towel to absorb any residual fuel pressure during the loosening of high-pressure fuel pump flare nut.
    NOTE: When only disconnecting the high pressure fuel tube at the high-pressure fuel pump flare nut, the high pressure fuel tube can be reused.

    Remove the high pressure fuel tube bracket nut and discard. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump flare nut.

  7. NOTE: Alternately loosen the high-pressure fuel pump bolts one complete revolution at a time.

    Remove the high-pressure fuel pump bolts and discard. Remove the high-pressure fuel pump.

  8. Remove the high-pressure fuel pump O-ring seal and discard.

  9. Remove the high-pressure fuel pump roller tappet.

  10. Inspect the high-pressure fuel pump roller tappet. If any flat spots or scoring are found, especially in the indicated areas, then inspect the high-pressure fuel pump and the high-pressure fuel pump roller tappet drive lobe. Install new components as necessary.

  11. Remove the high-pressure fuel pump plate bolt and the high-pressure fuel pump mounting plate.
