Pinpoint Test L: The Auto Stop-Start Indicator Is Never Or Always On

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Auto Stop-Start Indicator. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the stop-start standby indicator request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the auto stop-start warning indicator to its last indication state (on or off), based upon the last message received.

    If the stop-start standby indicator request message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the auto stop-start indicator off.

    Possible Sources 

    • Communication concern
    • PCM concern
    • GWM concern
    • IPC

  2. L1 VERIFY THE AUTO STOP-START FEATURE IS ENABLED

    • Ignition ON.

    • NOTE: Refer to the Owner's Literature for message center menu navigation.

      Using the message center controls, verify the stop-start feature is enabled.

    Is the stop-start system enabled? 

    Yes  GO to  L2
    No  ENABLE the stop-start feature and INFORM the customer how to enable the feature.
  3. L2 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Access the IPC and control the ALL_LAMPSPID

    • Command all the indicators on then off while observing the auto stop-start indicator.

    Does the auto stop-start indicator turn on when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  GO to  L3
    No  Install a new IPC. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
  4. L3 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: IPC in Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart .
    No  GO to  L4
  5. L4 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  Refer to the appropriate Electronic Engine Controls article.
    No  GO to  L5
  6. L5 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network .
    No  DIAGNOSE the auto stop-start feature. REFER to the appropriate Starting System article.
