Pinpoint Test F: B1B46:08

  1. NOTE: Before disconnecting the IPMA or any of the parking aid sensors, verify the connectors are properly seated and latched.

    Refer to Parking Aid - System Operation and Component Description  for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Parking Aid - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    IPMA B1B46:08 Right Rear Inner Sensor: Bus Signal/Message Failures A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the IPMA when there is a message failure on the LIN for the RHR inner parking aid sensor.

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • RHR inner parking aid sensor
    • IPMA

  2. F1 CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPMA self-test.

    • Check the parking aid Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the self-test.

    Are Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for multiple rear parking aid sensors recorded? 

    Yes  GO to  F2
    No  * For Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B1B46:08 GO to  F3
    * For all other IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart .
  3. F2 CHECK THE REAR BUMPER WIRING HARNESS

    • Inspect the rear bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds or corrosion.

    Is the rear bumper wiring harness OK? 

    Yes  GO to  F3
    No  REPAIR or INSTALL a new rear bumper wiring harness.
  4. F3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SENSOR

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect RHR inner parking aid sensor C4012.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 9 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  F4
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. F4 CHECK FOR GROUND AT THE SENSOR

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 9 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  F5
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. F5 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Disconnect IPMA C4242A.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the affected circuits.
    No  GO to  F6
  7. F6 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  F7
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. F7 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO VREF OR SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUITS

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  F8
    No  REPAIR the affected circuits.
  9. F8 CHECK THE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  F9
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  10. F9 INSTALL A KNOWN GOOD SENSOR

    • Connect IPMA C4242A.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the self-test.

    Is DTC B1B46:08 still present? 

    Yes  GO to  F10
    No  INSTALL a new RHR inner parking aid sensor. REFER to: Rear Parking Aid Sensor .
  11. F10 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all IPMA connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPMA connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPMA. REFER to: Image Processing Module A (IPMA) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
