Pinpoint Test L: The Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Is Inoperative (ICM (Information Center Module) Gauge Pack)

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Engine Oil Pressure Gauge. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the ICM does not receive the oil pressure warning indicator request message from the PCM for less than 5 seconds, the ICM defaults the engine oil pressure gauge to the last display state based upon the last message received.

    If the oil pressure warning indicator request message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the ICM sets DTC U0100:00 and defaults the engine oil pressure gauge to 0 PSI.

    Possible Sources 

    • Communication concern
    • Engine oil pressure indication concern
    • PCM concern
    • ICM

  2. L1 PERFORM THE ICM (INFORMATION CENTER MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the ICM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Information Center Module (ICM) .
    No  GO to  L2

  3. L2 PERFORM THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the ICM Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the ICM oil pressure gauge (OIL_PRESS) PID.

    • Command the oil pressure gauge on and off while monitoring the oil pressure gauge.

    Does the oil pressure gauge start at 0 PSI, move to 100 PSI and return to 0 PSI? 

    Yes  GO to  L3
    No  INSTALL a new ICM. REFER to: Information Center Module (ICM) 

  4. L3 CHECK THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) LOW OIL PRESSURE RTT (RECONFIGURABLE TELLTALE)

    • Start the engine and monitor the IPC low oil pressure RTT.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Engine Oil Pressure Switch C103 (2.3L and 5.0L Non-Performance).

    • Disconnect Engine Oil Pressure Sensor C1657 (2.3L and 5.0L Performance).

    • Disconnect Engine Oil Pressure Sensor C1652 (5.2L).

    • Start the engine and monitor the IPC low engine oil pressure RTT.

    Is the low engine oil pressure RTT off with the engine oil pressure switch connected and turn on with the engine oil pressure switch disconnected? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new ICM. REFER to: Information Center Module (ICM) 
    No  For 2.3L and 5.0L [non-performance package], GO to Pinpoint Test AU  For 2.3L and 5.0L [performance package] and 5.2L, GO to Pinpoint Test AV
