Fuel Lines: Removal

WARNING: WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures may be present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation steps.
  1. Refer to: Gasoline and Gasoline-Ethanol Fuel Systems Health and Safety Precautions
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release
  3. Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Cables - 2.5L Duratec - Hybrid (121kW/164PS) (BG)
  4. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview
  5. Remove the high voltage battery. Refer to HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY - HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (HEV) .
  6. NOTE: Wrap the fuel line connector with a shop towel to absorb any residual fuel pressure during the removal of the fuel line.

    Disconnect the quick connectors. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling . Refer to: Spring Lock Couplings

  7. Detach the retainer clip.

    • Remove the retainers.

    • Remove the screws and position the RH wheel arch liner aside.

      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

    • Remove the RH air deflector.

    • Remove the retainers.

    • Remove the screws and position the LH wheel arch liner aside.

      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

    • Remove the LH air deflector.

  8. Remove the nuts and heat shield.

    Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

    • Disconnect the front brake lines and detach the retainer clip.

      Torque: 150 lb.in (17 Nm)

  9. Detach the retainer clips.

  10. NOTE: Wrap the fuel line connector with a shop towel to absorb any residual fuel pressure during the removal of the fuel line.

    • Disconnect the rear brake lines retainers.

      Torque: 150 lb.in (17 Nm)

  11. Detach the fuel tube retainers and remove the fuel lines.
