Pinpoint Test U : P0A47, P0C64

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Electric Powertrain Control - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    SOBDMC P0A47:00 Drive Motor "B" Position Sensor Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when a resolver wiring fault is detected.
    SOBDMC P0C64:00 Generator Position Sensor Circuit A: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when a generator resolver failure is detected.

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Inverter System Controller (ISC)

  2. U1 CHECK FOR INVERTER SYSTEM CONTROLLER (ISC) DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) P0A2F

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the Inverter System Controller (ISC) self-test.

    Is DTC P0634:00, P0C65:00 or P0C6A:00 present in the Inverter System Controller (ISC)? 

    Yes  For P0634:00 GO to Pinpoint Test J  For P0C65:00 GO to Pinpoint Test AF  For P0C6A:00 GO to Pinpoint Test AH 
    No  GO to  U2
  3. U2 CHECK THE INVERTER SYSTEM CONTROLLER (ISC) CALIBRATION LEVEL

    • Verify the Inverter System Controller (ISC) is at the latest calibration level.

    Is the Inverter System Controller (ISC) at the latest calibration level? 

    Yes  GO to  U3
    No  UPDATE the Inverter System Controller (ISC) to the latest calibration level.
  4. U3 VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE LOW VOLTAGE SYSTEM

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Remove the high voltage traction battery service disconnect plug.

    • Visually inspect the low voltage cables between the Inverter System Controller (ISC) and the electric motor.

    • Make sure all the low voltage connectors are correctly and securely connected.

    • Examine all the low voltage cables and connectors for damaged, burned or overheated insulation and loose or broken connections.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes  REPAIR as necessary. CLEAR the DTCs and REPEAT the self-test.
    No  GO to  U4
  5. U4 CHECK FOR INVERTER SYSTEM CONTROLLER (ISC) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Clear the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, run the Inverter System Controller (ISC) self-test.

    Are DTCs P0634, P0A4D, P0C5A, P0C5C, P0C5D, P0C5F, P0C61, P0C62, P0C66, P0C67, P0C6A, P0C6B, or P0C6C present? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE these Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs first. REFER to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart  .
    No  GO to  U5
  6. U5 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR SPEED RESOLVER RESISTANCES

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Transmission Sensor Speed Resolver C1280.

    • Measure and record:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 8 and 18 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  U6
    No  INSTALL a new electric motor. REFER to: Hybrid Drive Unit . CLEAR the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  7. U6 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR SPEED RESOLVER RESISTANCES

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Transmission Sensor Speed Resolver C1280.

    • Measure and record:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 32 and 42 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  U7
    No  INSTALL a new electric motor. REFER to: Hybrid Drive Unit . CLEAR the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  8. U7 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR SPEED RESOLVER RESISTANCES

    • Measure and record:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 27 and 37 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  U8
    No  INSTALL a new electric motor. REFER to: Hybrid Drive Unit . CLEAR the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  9. U8 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR SPEED RESOLVER SENSORS SHORTED TOGETHER

    • Measure and record:

    Are the resistances greater than 10K ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  U9
    No  INSTALL a new electric motor. REFER to: Hybrid Drive Unit . CLEAR the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  10. U9 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR SPEED RESOLVER SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure and record:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10K ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  U10
    No  INSTALL a new electric motor. REFER to: Hybrid Drive Unit . CLEAR the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  11. U10 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR SPEED RESOLVER CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect Inverter System Controller (ISC) C1458A.

    • Measure and record:

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  U11
    No  REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs and REPEAT the self-test.
  12. U11 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR SPEED RESOLVER CIRCUITS SHORTED TOGETHER

    • Measure and record:

    Are the resistances greater than 10K ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  U12
    No  REPAIR the short circuit. CLEAR the DTCs and REPEAT the self-test.
  13. U12 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR SPEED RESOLVER CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Disconnect Inverter System Controller (ISC) C1458A.

    • Measure and record:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10K ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  U13
    No  REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs and REPEAT the self-test.
  14. U13 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR SPEED RESOLVER CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure and record:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the short circuit. CLEAR the DTCs and REPEAT the self-test.
    No  GO to  U14
  15. U14 CHECK FOR CORRECT INVERTER SYSTEM CONTROLLER (ISC) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all Inverter System Controller (ISC) connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the Inverter System Controller (ISC) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Connect Transmission Sensor Speed Resolver C1280.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Wait 120 seconds.

    • Clear the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Start the engine.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, run the Inverter System Controller (ISC) self-test.

    Is DTC P0A47 or P0C64 present? 

    Yes  GO to  U15
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  16. U15 CHECK FOR APPLICABLE SERVICE ARTICLES

    • CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA.

    Was a service article found? 

    Yes  DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions.
    No  Refer to Pinpoint Tests Z: Intermittent to continue diagnostics.
