Pinpoint Test H: B1B48:08, B1B48:31, B1B48:1F And B1B48:64

  1. NOTE: Before disconnecting the PAM or any of the parking aid sensors, verify the connectors are properly seated and latched.

    Parking Aid for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Parking Aid - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    PAM B1B48:08 Left Rear Outer Sensor: Bus Signal/Message Failures A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the PAM when there is a message failure on the LIN for the LHR outer parking aid sensor.
    PAM B1B48:31 Left Rear Outer Sensor: No Signal A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the PAM when no signal is received on the LIN for the LHR outer parking aid sensor.
    PAM B1B48:1F Left Rear Outer Sensor: Circuit Intermittent A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the PAM when an intermittent fault is detected on the LIN for the LHR outer parking aid sensor.
    PAM B1B48:64 Left Rear Outer Sensor: Signal Plausibility Failure A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the PAM when there is no response from the LHR outer parking aid sensor.

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • LHR outer parking aid sensor
    • PAM

  2. H1 CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PAM self-test.

    • Check the parking aid Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the self-test.

    Are Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for multiple rear parking aid sensors recorded? 

    Yes  GO to  H2
    No  * For Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B1B44:08, B1B44:31, B1B48:1F or B1B48:64 GO to  H3
    * For all other PAM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to the PAM DTC Chart in this information. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart 
  3. H2 CHECK THE REAR BUMPER WIRING HARNESS

    • Inspect the rear bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds or corrosion.

    Is the rear bumper wiring harness OK? 

    Yes  GO to  H3
    No  REPAIR or INSTALL a new rear bumper wiring harness.
  4. H3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SENSOR

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect LHR outer parking aid sensor C4544.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C4544-1

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 9 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  H4
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. H4 CHECK FOR GROUND AT THE SENSOR

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 9 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  H5
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. H5 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Disconnect PAM C4226A.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C4544-2

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the affected circuits.
    No  GO to  H6
  7. H6 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  H7
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. H7 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO VREF OR SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUITS

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  H8
    No  REPAIR the affected circuits.
  9. H8 CHECK THE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  H9
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  10. H9 INSTALL A KNOWN GOOD SENSOR

    • Connect PAM C4226A.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the PAM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the self-test.

    Is DTC B1B48:08, B1B48:31, B1B48:1F or B1B48:64 still present? 

    Yes  GO to  H10
    No  INSTALL a new LHR outer parking aid sensor. REFER to: Rear Parking Aid Sensor 
  11. H10 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all PAM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to: Parking Assist Control Module (PAM) 
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
