Pinpoint Test D: C0093:16, C0093:17 And C0093:92

  1. D1 CHECK FOR PTU TEMPERATURE SENSOR INPUT VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect PTU Oil Temperature Sensor C3841B.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is voltage between 4.95 and 5.1 volts? 

    Yes  Voltage is present at the sensor. GO to  D5
    No  GO to  D2
  2. D2 CHECK TEMPERATURE SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect AWD module C281.

    • Inspect connector for damage.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  The circuit is intact. GO to  D3
    No  The circuit has high resistance or is open. REPAIR Circuit.
  3. D3 CHECK TEMPERATURE SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect PTU Oil Temperature Sensor C3841B.

    • Disconnect AWD Module C281.

    • measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  The circuit is shorted to ground. REPAIR circuit.
    No  The circuit is not shorted to ground. GO to  D4
  4. D4 CHECK TEMPERATURE SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO BATTERY

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect PTU Oil Temperature Sensor C3841B.

    • Disconnect AWD Module C281.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    • Ignition ON.

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  The circuit is shorted to voltage. REPAIR circuit.
    No  The circuit is intact and not shorted. Diagnose PCM. Refer to PCM Guided Routine Testing
  5. D5 CHECK FOR PTU TEMPERATURE SENSOR SIGNAL RETURN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect PTU Oil Temperature Sensor C3841B.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • Ignition ON.

    Is the voltage between 4.95 and 5.1V? 

    Yes  The circuit is intact. GO to  D6
    No  Repair the circuit.
  6. D6 CHECK FOR PTU TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE

    • Disconnect PTU Oil Temperature Sensor C3841B.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Does the temperature to resistance specifications match? 

    Yes  No Fault found. GO to  D7
    No  INSTALL a new transfer case fluid (PTU) temperature sensor.
  7. D7 CHECK OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Check other modules for voltage DTCs. If so, go to charging system tests.

    • Montior B+ and Ground while wiggle testing harness. If no concern, replace the module.

    • Disconnect and inspect AWD Module C281.

    • Disconnect PTU Oil Temperature Sensor C3841B.

    • CLEAR AWD Module DTCs.

    • PERFORM KOER Self test on the AWD Module

    Did the temperature sensor DTC reset? 

    Yes  Diagnose PCM. Refer to PCM Guided Routine Testing
    No  The PTU temperature sensor is working correctly at this time.
