Pinpoint Test A: Stiff Gearshift

  1. Possible Sources 

    • Gearshift cables damaged
    • Gearshift cables incorrectly adjusted
    • Gearshift lever damaged
    • Selector mechanism damaged

  2. A1 ADJUST THE GEARSHIFT CABLES

    Is the gearshift lever difficult to operate after cable adjustment? 

    Yes  GO to  A2
    No  External controls operating correctly.

  3. A2 CHECK THE GEARSHIFT LEVER

    • Detach the gearshift cables from the gearshift lever.

    Is the gearshift lever difficult to operate? 

    Yes  Install a new gearshift lever. REFER to: Gearshift Lever .
    No  GO to  A3

  4. A3 CHECK THE GEARSHIFT CABLES

    • Attach the gearshift cables to the gearshift lever.

    • Detach the gearshift cables from the transmission.

    Is the gearshift lever difficult to operate? 

    Yes  Install new gearshift cables. REFER to: Gearshift Cables .
    No  Check the transmission selector mechanism.
