- Remove the exhaust flexible pipe. Refer to: Exhaust Flexible Pipe
- If disassembly of the transmission is required, drain the transmission. Refer to: Transmission Draining and Filling
- Remove the transfer case. Refer to: Transfer Case Refer to: Transfer Case
- Remove the exhaust hanger bracket nut.
- Loosen the exhaust hanger bracket bolt.
- Remove the exhaust hanger bolts and bracket.

- Detach the oxygen sensor retainer.
- Remove the gearshift cable stud bolt.
- Disconnect the gearshift cables and remove the gearshift cable bolts.
- Disconnect the gearshift position sensor and detach the harness retainers..

NOTE: Cap the clutch slave cylinder supply line to prevent fluid loss or contamination.NOTE: If the clutch fluid comes into contact with the painted area, rinse off the affected areas with cold water.
Remove the retaining clip and disconnect the clutch hydraulic line.
- Remove the harness retainers and position the harness aside. Remove the shift cable bracket bolt.
- Remove the starter harness bracket nuts and position the starter harness bracket aside.
- Remove the starter bolts and position the starter aside.
- Remove the coolant tubes bracket nut.
- Remove the clutch housing bolts.

NOTE: Pull straight back until released from the pilot bearing.
Using a transmission jack and retaining strap, disconnect the transmission vent and remove the transmission. Use the General Equipment: Transmission JackUse the General Equipment: Retaining Strap
- If replacing the transmission. Remove the bolts and the gearshift cable mounting bracket. If equipped, remove the cooler tube bracket.
