Gear Shift Position Sensor: Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
The gear position sensor and the gear position sensor magnet must be serviced as a matched pair with a matching serial number. The gear position sensor magnet comes pre installed on the shift shaft.
NOTE:
It is recommended using a paint pen and mark all washers, bearings etc. when removed from the shafts so that all parts are installed in the same direction with all mating surfaces touching as removed.
- Remove the transmission. Refer to: Transmission - 2.3L EcoBoost (199kW/270PS)
- Remove the output shaft seal. Refer to: Output Shaft Seal

NOTE: If the gear position sensor and magnet are being replaced, discard old gear position sensor and magnet assembly.
Remove and discard the screws and gear position sensor.
- Remove the rear transmission case bolts.

NOTE: Use a two leg puller OTC-1040 or equivalent.
Using a 2 jaw puller and a step plate, remove the rear transmission case. Use the General Equipment: Two Leg Puller
- Remove the output shaft thrust washer.
- Remove the crawler gear.
- Remove the crawler gear bearing.
- Remove the crawler gear synchronizer rings.

NOTE: Use care to not scratch the output shaft surfaces or leaks and/or premature part failures such as bearings may be the result.
Remove the crawler/reverse gear synchronizer circlip.
- Remove and discard the crawler/reverse gear synchronizer fork roll pin.
- Remove the crawler/reverse gear synchronizer and fork.
- Remove the reverse gear synchronizer rings.

NOTE: Use care to not scratch the output shaft surfaces or leaks and/or premature part failures such as bearings may be the result.
Remove the crawler/reverse gear synchronizer circlip.
- Remove the reverse idler gear, bearing and shaft.
- Remove the reverse gear.
- Remove the reverse gear bearing.

NOTE: Use caution to not round out the hex head of the select gate pin.NOTE: The select gate pin may require to be heated by a heat gun for removal.
Remove and discard select gate pin. Remove the shift selector.

NOTE: Use a two leg puller OTC-1040 or equivalent.
Using a soft face hammer and punch, remove the alignment dowel pins. Use the General Equipment: Punch

NOTE: When removing the midplate, the midplate bearing should stay on the shafts, however they may come off with the midplate. Be prepared for the midplate bearings to fall out.NOTE: Use caution and pull the midplate off square or damage to the midplate bearing could occur.
Using a 2 jaw puller and a step plate, remove the transmission mid plate. Use the General Equipment: Two Leg Puller

- Remove the shift dampener lever spacer.
- Position the shift dampener lever outward.
- Remove the gearshift lever pivot bolt.

NOTE: If the gear position sensor and magnet are being replaced, discard old gear position sensor and magnet assembly.
Remove and discard the shift shaft and gear position sensor magnet assembly.
