Fuel Tank: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  4. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining .
    1. Detach the clip and disconnect the EVAP canister vent tube.
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    3. Remove the quick release couplings and position aside the hoses. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

    3-Door 

  6. Support the fuel tank and skid plate with a transmission jack and remove the bolts.

    Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

    Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap

    Torque

    : 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)

  7. NOTE: Make sure that no strain is placed on the fuel lines and wiring harnesses.

    Lower the fuel tank slowly to access the quick connectors and electrical connector.

  8. Remove the quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  9. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  10. Remove the fuel tank.

    5-Door 

    • Support the fuel tank with a transmission jack and remove the bolts.

      Torque

      : 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)

    • NOTE: Make sure that no strain is placed on the fuel lines and wiring harnesses.

      Lower the fuel tank slowly to access the quick connectors and electrical connector.
